Skype for iOS receives updates with new photo sharing feature

The new ‘PhotoShare’ feature adds bug fixes and ensures a less battery drain. Skype has updated its iOS app with new photo sharing feature, enabling users to take a photo from their gallery or take a new snap and send them to their friends and family over Skype with their iPhone and iPad.

User has to simply select the name of a contact they wish to send the image, select the image from camera or photo stream, click the ‘send’ button and then the shot will be sent user’s contact once they accept it. The contact needs to be set up on Skype instant messenger.

The company said there is no limit to the size of the photo which can be shared. The new app will consume less power allowing iOS users to keep the app running all through the day while the company said the app loads contacts faster.

Skype Product Marketing manager Jonathan Watson said over the last couple of releases, it has started to improve the overall performance of Skype’s mobile apps.

“The prior release began to make them less battery hungry when running in the background, so you can answer Skype calls throughout the day when they come in,” Watson said.

“And, as you’ll be able to keep Skype open, you can respond to or send IMs (instant messages) to friends and colleagues all day long.”

“In addition, this latest release improves the app start and the contact list loads even faster, so you can do all the things you love to do with Skype more quickly.”

Skype for iPhone supports the iPhone 3GS or the third and fourth-generation iPod touch, while Skype for iPad supports all models: iOS 4.3 or later.
