EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Mr South Africa Armand Du Plessis tells us his plans for the world stage, his passion for helping people, love for gadgets and more…
Potentially the most sought after batchelor in South Africa right now – the new winner of the Mr. South Africa, Armand du Plessis was crowned at a star studded gala event earlier this year.
Du Plessis is firm about the title: “Mr South Africa is not just about good looks. It’s about hard work and commitment.”
“Mr South Africa has taken me to places I’d never seen before, I’ve met people I might have never met, and done things I’d never done.”
In addition to the title, Du Plessis won prizes amounting to more than R500,000. They included bungee jumping, private dance lessons, spa sessions, a professionally designed personal website, and suits and casual wear worth R100,000.
I recently had the honour to interview Du Plessis, see below for the interview.
Tell us a little more about the man, Armand Du Plessis?
I am a 26 year old Law graduate, with a strong passion to make an impact and difference on the people of South Africa, especially that of the youth. I have a strong love for children, hence my interest in practicing Child Law.
How did you get to be on Mr South Africa?
It’s been a dream of my since I was a child, inspired by the likes of 2007 winner, Dieter Voigt. I took the decision in 2014 to finally use the year to enter, during this year not only did I complete another year, but was put through challenges through the Mr. SA Organisation to place in the Top 12.
What was the experience like?
Challenging, exciting, inspiring. It’s changed my life forever. One of my best life experience yet.
What was the first thing that came to mind when you were announced Mr. South Africa?
“I’ve done it, I have made my parents and country proud”
How are you preparing for Mr. World pageant?
Right now I am using my energy and focus on Mr. SA, with preparations happening ‘behind the scenes’. Through the year completion of grueling challenges, workshops and general preparations for Mr. SA, I believe the organisation has prepared myself for an international title such as Mr. World.
How would you describe your style?
Sophisticated, unique, modern. I am of the opinion that an ambassador of a country should always look presentable, in every way.
What does your personal life on a daily basis entail?
Taking care of myself, this includes my appearance is very important to me. I exercise often, eat healthily, and prepare for the day ahead. I rely on technology a lot to keep my up to date and communicate with the necessary people.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Trying to balance a lifestyle between studies, maintaining friendships, focusing on Mr. SA and of course trying to see my family as much as possible.

iPhone, Camera, laptop, sunglasses and mobile internet
What are your favorite fashion trends?
Modern, I am very much into the styling trend at the moment.
What is your favorite dish?
Pasta
What songs are currently on your playlist?
I have a wide variety of songs on my playlist, which change often as I enjoy current and Top 40 music.
What projects are you currently working on?

I am currently working on a project called ‘Adp Dinner’, the idea is to host top class dinners in various cities across the country to raise money for a number of charities.
What are your plans the rest of your reign this year?
To continue to inspire South Africans, and especially the youth to see the full potential of what they are capable, to make a change, to help and grow those around me. Learn from those who gone before and pave the way for those to still come.
What advice can you give others to pursue their dreams?
We all face challenges in every aspect of our daily lives, but use the challenges to grow, become a better person, stay actively positive in your mindset, because it’s this ultimately that will help you achieve what it is you want in your life.
Where do you see yourself in 2-5 years from now?
Being an advocate with a focus on Child Law and assisting to making a difference in the voices of the Youth in South Africa.
