MultiChoice appoints Nkateko Mabaso new CEO of M-Net in Sub-Saharan Africa

MultiChoice appoints Nkateko Mabaso as the new permanent M-Net CEO in Sub-Saharan Africa with immediate effect.

Nkateko Mabaso has been the acting M-Net CEO since February 2018 for the past 7 months but has now been appointed permanently in the position.

MultiChoice and M-Net didn’t issue any press release in South Africa to the media and only made an internal announcement.

Nkateko Mabaso succeeds Yolisa Phahle, who was appointed as MultiChoice CEO of general entertainment.

Before that Nkateko Mabaso was M-Net’s director for local interest channels since March 2014, when he also replaced Yolisa Phahle in the position.

Nkateko Mabaso joined M-Net in 2010 as the marketing manager for the Vuzu and Channel O channels and was M-Net’s general manager for local entertainment channels in 2013 before later moving to the director position as well as group general manager for M-Net South Africa in 2016.

“Nkateko has been appointed in recognition of his continued commitment and contribution to local programming that audiences love and watch in increasing numbers year on year. He is passionate about our continent’s film and television industry and I wish him every success,” says Yolisa Phahle.

Nkateko Mabaso says “I am incredibly excited to assume this new role and for the future of the company. I will continue to focus my efforts on local content creation to meet the growing audience demand for homegrown programming”.

As M-Net CEO Nkateko Mabaso oversees M-Net’s channels in South Africa including M-Net, 1Magic, M-Net City, the series of M-Net Movies, kykNET, and Mzansi Magic channels; as well as in the rest of Africa the sets of Africa Magic and Maisha Magic channels, along with Zambezi Magic and Pearl Magic.

M-Net says it will continue to drive and execute content strategies that include increased investment in local content and co-production initiatives.
