Saturday 14 September in Lagos, about 50 SAP Nigeria employees and partners shed their suits and tightened their sneakers. Far and above a change in apparel, it was a day of changing mindsets by stepping up their wellness routine as they participated in a Corporate Walk and Fitness programme organised by the market and technology leader in business management software.
Tagged ‘Walk Better. Start Better’, the workplace organised fitness programme is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at promoting entrepreneurship by motivating people to start businesses and keep at it while maintaining fit and healthy lifestyles.
Held in partnership with Fate Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation which promotes business and entrepreneurial development in Nigeria, the choice of workout is because of its accessibility and effectiveness at improving quality of life while discouraging a sedentary lifestyle.
Supervised by Dr Famurewa, a medical doctor/public health personnel, participants took off from Lekki 2nd (VFS) Roundabout and terminated at the Vantage Beach Resort , Lekki Beach side.
Richard Edet, the Managing Director of SAP West Africa, in a short speech delivered to kick-start the workout said, “We are starting this wellness initiative and the plan is to do it regularly. The fitness programme signifies our company’s duty to improve the health of our employees and the populace while ultimately enhancing productivity.” The slogan, ‘Walk Better. Start Better’ appeals to both our physical health and execution of ideas within us.
As part of the company’s commitment to help businesses ‘Start Better’, a fund raiser to solicit donations was held prior to the walkathon and proceeds were used to purchase desktop computers which were presented through Fate Foundation to deserving entrepreneurs.
Says Richard, “Every business was once an idea. We encourage that businesses be started, grown and then take advantage of technology solutions to RUN BETTER, in alignment with SAP’s vision.”
Receiving the computers, Ajoke Omoware and Eniola Afinni, representatives of Fate Foundation lauded SAP’s initiative at helping people maintain healthy lifestyles for enhanced productivity.
According to Ajoke, “encouraging start-ups directly imparts the economy positively”.
The walkathon promises to be a quarterly event.
