Even though a sprinkler flooded the red carpet outside the Beverly Hilton hotel hours before the Golden Globes ceremony was set to begin, Hollywood’s biggest names managed to do their thing with grace while wearing floor-length gowns.
Some, though, opted for another trend (one that served the damp conditions well) — and walked through the wet scene wearing midcentury, Cristobal Balenciaga-inspired full, asymmetrical skirts — or as some would call them, “peacock tails.”
Zooey Deschanel, styled by Karla Welch, wore a sparkly embroidered crop top and asymmetrical skirt designed by Oscar de la Renta. The actress, nominated for her role in New Girl, didn’t stop with the embroidery on her top, as the high-low silhouette revealed embroidery on her nude-colored heels as well. Deschanel perfected her old-school Hollywood glam look with bold red lips.
Michelle Dockery stepped out in a high-low, embroidered gown designed by Oscar de la Renta, as well. Styled by Micaela Erlanger, the Downton Abbey actress matched her pale beige-and-gold sequined number with basic gold heels.
While Deschanel and Dockery went for more muted colors, Master of Sex actress Caitlin FitzGerald chose a dress with the same silhouette but a brighter shade. The star opted for a baby blue gown designed by Emilia Wickstead from the spring 2014 collection, which she paired with ankle-strap pumps in coral and a similar blue.
