TRIP REVIEW: 48 hours in Washington D.C.

My journey to Washington, D.C. started from Lagos on Sunday 5th of February and ended on Monday 6th February. Part of my 2017 resolutions was to explore more of the United States and I am so far making good on that promise. This is why I was excited about my visit to the U.S. and Washington, D.C. was the first stop of my tour.

While I got to see a lot while I was in D.C., the highlight was definitely a visit to the Lincoln Memorial.

Behind its public face of luminous marble memorials and Capitol Hill politicking, Washington, D.C., leads a wondrously varied life.

Peep below to see what I got up to:

Arrival/Immigration:
Thanks to Qatar Airways, my 14 hours trip from Hamad International Airport, Doha to Washington Dulles International Airport was a smooth flight.

I arrived D.C. and headed straight to immigration control. Contrary to many people’s fear or believe, my experience this time was fast. The Asia-American immigration guy that attended to me was very nice and professional. He asked me just two questions – “My Purpose of visit” and “How long I was staying in the U.S.”

My good friend and video director, Wale Champion was on hand to pick me up at the Airport.

The White House:
First on my stop was the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue, the new home of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.

U.S. Capitol:
The home of the Senate and House chambers, where resolute legislators hash out U.S. laws.

Washington Monument:
A different perspective awaits atop. A staggering view of the green-swept Mall and beyond.

National African American Museum:
The Museum has welcomed nearly 750,000 visitors since opening September 24, 2016.

Tickets to the new National Museum of African-American History and Culture in Washington D.C. are ‘sold out’ through March 2017 so could not enter to see the place as at the time I visited.

Lincoln Memorial:
As part of my trip I headed to see one of the most famous monument in Washington D.C.

“In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever.”

Beneath these words, the 16th President of the United States sits immortalised in marble as an enduring symbol of unity, strength, and wisdom.

World War II Memorial:
The World War II Memorial recognizes the ways Americans served, honors those who fell, and recognizes the victory they achieved to restore freedom and end tyranny around the globe.

Next up on my Tour of the USA is New York City.

What did you think of my trip to D.C.? Have you ever been there before? If not, is it on your travel list?
