AUDITION: David Tlale reality show calls for aspiring fashion designers

Here’s a special something for all you aspiring fashion designers out there…

SABC3 has commisioned a new David Tlale reality show called The Intern and the search for competing designers is on.


The prize

The winner will become an Assistant Designer for the House of David Tlale and will also win a design studio to the value of R250,000.

The show

The show is scheduled for a July premiere and is searching for 12 contestants to compete in a 13-episode series of weekly challenges and eliminations to find the final winner.

This is what you need to know about the selection process and what happens next:

The auditions

The auditions take the form of a national road show, where David and his team will visit four cities on the following days:

Cape Town
Dates:
Monday, 22 and Tuesday, 23 May 2017
Venue: Castle of Good Hope

Durban
Dates:
Thursday, 25 and Friday, 26 May 2017
Venue: iGoda Incubator

Polokwane
Dates:
Monday, 29 and Tuesday, 30 May 2017
Venue: To be confirmed

Johannesburg
Dates:
Thursday, 1 and Friday, 2 June 2017
Venue: Johannesburg City Hall

On the day, David will give workshops to the hopeful contestants at each of the venues and will choose the the 12 contestants for the show after visiting each venue.

The final 12 contestants that are chosen will then compete on the show and those who are eliminated will get an opportunity to join David Tlale’s in-house internship programme for 6 months.

Who can enter?

Entrants need to be self-taught with approximately three years’ experience in the fashion industry.

or

You need to be a student currently working on achieving your degree or diploma in Fashion Design (final year students only).

The competition is open to everyone living in South Africa.

NB

You must complete a fashion design portfolio of your own work, including your fashion résumé.

You need to submit storyboards of 5 existing ranges or a collection consisting of 5 complete looks as well as images of the collection. Three of these garments must be ready to show so that David can see them in action – models and styling will be provided at the workshops.

Pre-registration

You can either arrive on the day with the requirements listed above or you can pre-enter on the show’s website by submitting your portfolio in advance.

It’s a good idea to enter in advance because it means you will have completed the first phase of the audition process and won’t have to do it on the day of the audition.
