AUDIO: Quayba – G.O.D. (Good Ole Days)

Following a successful release of her 2017 well received song, ‘Chale Wote’ which featured Temple, Afro-soul songstress, Quayba returns with her first single of the year captioned ‘G.O.D’. ‘G.O.D’ is the second song to be released off her debut EP.

Contrary to what you might think it is not about God or anything religious. ‘G.O.D’ is simply an acronym for ‘Good Ole Days’ and takes us back in time to early school days, games we used to play as kids, favourite television programmes we used to enjoy and even drinks and sweets we used to love as children growing up in Ghana. It makes mention of popular television figures such as Maame Dokono of ”By the Fire Side” fame and ”Kyekyekule”, who was a regular host of the fondly remembered ”Kwasasa” show amongst other educative programmes.

The song continues to reminisce about certain well known terms common in childhood parlance such as ‘Mangoline’ and ‘New weelee’, the former referring to climbing trees to pluck mangoes and the latter referring to anytime you released something new at school, home or church especially if it was either a shoe, dress or bag, for those who missed out on those truly unique experiences. ‘G.O.D’ is beautifully written and captures those memorable childhood adventures we want to always remember.

The four minute twenty-three seconds track allows you to relive all those memories, a journey that is guaranteed to leave a lasting smile on your face. ‘G.O.D’ is catchy, fun and has an irresistibly groovy bassline that is just the perfect complement to the deep lyrical content and sultry vocals. For those who have had these experiences it would be an exciting trip down memory lane and for those who did not this amazing song paints a near vivid picture of what it was like back in the day.

It is your quintessential guide to growing up as a child in Ghana. ‘G.O.D’ is a track for both the old and young and would continue to play on in the hearts of generations long after we are gone.

Enjoy!
