INTERVIEW: Singer, Model & Entrepreneur, Marc Moten Talks New Skin Care Product “6ix21 Body Therapy”, EP “Not In My Feelings”, How His Granny Influenced His Love For Music, and More…

Meet Marc Moten a native of Huntsville, Texas. Like most he grew up in the church singing in the choir. However, It wasn’t until his granny caught him singing in the bathroom I got my start in singing. Marc’s granny dared him that next following Sunday to sing his first solo at the age of 7 and that’s when he found his love for music.

With a Bachelors in Business Management, Marc enjoyed modelling, but music had always played a huge part in his life. In 2020, he decided to go back to his old music roots and on June 12th he dropped his first single “I Tried” giving a slow R&B flavor and on July 23rd his first EP titled “Not in my Feelings” was released, which is the birthday of my biggest inspiration my granny.

Check out my exclusive interview with Marc Moten below:

Hey Marc! Would you like to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, my name is Marc Moten.

Talk me through an average day in the life of you?

An average day in my life for me would be work, work, and more work. I am always either working, working on something, or coming up with something to work on.

What institution(s) did you attend and what did you study?

I went to University of Phoenix in which I was going for Human Resource but I ended up changing it and getting my Bachelors in Business Management.

How were you discovered and how did you end up also falling in love with music, why?

I would say it all started around the age of 7. Me, my sisters, and brother were living with my grandmother. She always made us go to church every Sunday. I use to see my aunt in the choir singing. So I would go in the bathroom and sing because that was my comfortable place. My granny was standing by the door listening. So that following Sunday she whispered in my ear “I’ll give you five dollars if you get up there and sing that song like you did in the bathroom”. So I did and that’s where my love for music started.

You decided to go back to your old music roots and on June 12th you dropped your first single “I Tried” giving us a slow R&B flavor. Tell us more about what it felt like recording that song knowing it was your first official single?

I wrote that song over ten years ago and I had let music go after the passing of my grandmother. However, God has perfect timing never too early or too late. Being that it was my first time ever recording I was definitely nervous but I pulled it together very well.

On July 23rd your first EP titled “Not in my Feelings” was released, which was the birthday of your biggest inspiration your granny. Why the title and what’s the message behind it?

I titled it “Not in my Feelings” because all the songs on the EP I wrote years ago when I was going through things rather it had been a relationship or just a situation. The message behind it is simply saying its OK to be in you’re feeling about things / situations cause in due time you won’t be attached to those emotions when you’re no longer in your feelings.

And what made you decide to become a model?

I’ve always loved the art of modeling how a single picture could tell a whole story.

What was your first modelling audition process like?

It wasn’t as bad due to the fact I always had a girlfriend model who went to the auditions with me. If anything the auditions teach you a lot about patience.

Tell me more about your love for music/modeling and how you use it to satisfy your your passion for acting?

Modeling and Music satisfied my passion for acting because in both i’m doing some form of acting weather it be in a video or in the concept of a photo.

What is the strangest thing you’ve ever experienced since entering into the music scene?

The strangest thing for me I would say being taken advantage of. It very important to learn the business because if you don’t have the knowledge people will use you and take advantage of you.

As an artist, what are your Dos and Don’t?

Dos:

  1. Pray everyday
  2. Never stop growing that is so important
  3. Set goals for yourself
  4. Write them down and always stay true to who you are
  5. Never let anyone else tell you who you are.

Don’ts:

  1. Never give up on your dreams
  2. Never stop being humble cause just as fast as it all came it can go just as fast.

Talking about fitness, considering all gyms were closed due to COVID-19, but now re-opening what ways were you still workout?

I just worked out at home. Before ever going to the gym I use to do homework outs. When they closed the gyms I had to go back to the basics which is honestly what I needed.

How do you balance your personal and professional life?

I’m always keeping myself busy but honestly it has been a struggle for me balancing both. However, I have been doing a lot better lately.

How would you describe the modelling industry in the United States, when it comes to encouraging new faces?

I would say a lot have good intentions but not always in you’re interest. People always want to compare you to this person or that person just be sure of who you are.

What do you consider the most common stereotype about the being an actor?

I would say that the most stereotype about being an actor is all though we may be getting more substantial parts in television, many are still playing the stereotype roles such as maids and thugs.

What aspect surprised you the most once you started as a model?

How the people you thought was rutting for you were really waiting for you to fail. One of my biggest lessons learned.

Which brands, clients, photographers, directors, models, etc, have you worked with?

I have worked with upcoming director Corey Knott. I have worked with Photographers Nathan Pearcy and Paris Steward. I’ve also worked with brand Blue Collar Underwear just to name a few.

What do you consider your biggest professional success so far?

Graduating with my Bachelors would be my biggest success. It took me longer then some and if I had not completed college I wouldn’t know that great feeling of finishing.

Who do you want to work with that you haven’t yet?

I would love to work with Mr. Blanks one day. His work is so awesome I love his photography work.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Self-love has been a big challenge. I love and care for everyone else but when it comes to myself I was a big challenge. Not to say I hate myself cause I don’t but it took me some time to fall in love with the person I see in the mirror every day. When you don’t love yourself that affects everything around you.

Tell us two things people don’t know about you?

  1. One thing that people get twisted about me is that I am a loner. I enjoy my alone time just as much as I enjoy being around great people. I be at home alone all the time and never get bored.
  2. Another thing would be people didn’t know that I sing until I put out my first single. I got so many messages saying they didn’t know I sung and they loved the song. That was a nervous but great moment for me.

As an active influencer on social media. Do you think its important to be online and if so why?

I think with how things work now yes it’s important to be online. I like to interact with people who support my journey of where I been and where im going. However, social media has its pros and cons.

You are a native of Huntsville, but now based in Dallas, Texas. How is that working out for you?

I enjoy living in Dallas, Texas it has brought me so many things like growth, peace of mind, etc.

What will you say are your must visit travel destinations?

London was on my visit list but with everything that going on I think I will be putting that on hold for now.

How would you describe your style?

My style is very country. Haha Although, I enjoyed dressing and looking nice I enjoy putting on my white t-shirt and jeans and call it a day.

Name your must have accessories/essentials?

I have to have my phone.

What are your favorite fashion trends?

Although, I love the flashy look I am more into the urban look trends. I guess it’s just the country boy in me.

What is your favorite dish?

I love soul food I don’t get enough of it like when I was younger.

What songs are currently on your music playlist?

My music playlist currently has been D’angelo, Giveon, and Snoh Aalegra. Those three have been my vibe lately.

Apart from being a model, actor, singer, what other projects are you currently working on?

I am currently working on a product called, “6ix21 Body Therapy” it’s an all-natural body butter. It stays on your skin longer while reducing the loss of moisture. Helps reduce blemishes and stretch marks, while nourishing you’re skin and boosting its elasticity. I will be launching that in a few weeks if the lord say the same.

Seeing you’re doing your dreams, what advice can you give others to pursue their dreams?

Stop doubting yourself and just do it. You have everything in you now to get to where you want to go and be. It will have to do some sacrificing but in the end it will all be worth it.

Any specific plans for the future?

Who knows what the future brings just stay tuned to see.

Any final words?
