#AsuquoTravelsTheUSA: My 4 Favourite Food Spots to Try While in New York City

It’s no question that there are many quality eating options in New York City, and with the abundance of choice it makes it easy to find a great spot for any occasion — and any budget. From birthday dinners to date night, and omakase sushi to burgers, African food to Italian, here are my 4 top picks I visited while in New York for which I think will suit every budget when the occasion (or craving) strikes.

Mother Burger Manhattan:
Address: 329 W 49th St, New York, NY 10019
Opening Hours: 11:30am–11pm

A small burger joint that draws crowds with its outdoor seating & extensive on-tap beer selection.

Grilled, seasoned, and served to perfection, Mother Burger is a prime burger. After eating, wash the food down with a selection of $3 beers or a $5 frozen margarita from the bar.

One last thing, it’s strictly first-come, first-served at Mother Burger, so plan an early arrival for your pick of tables.

Madiba Restaurant Brooklyn:
Address: 195 Dekalb Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205
Phone: +1 (718) 855-9190
Hours: 11am–11pm

Your destination for South African/African food served in a colorful converted garage. Opened in 1999, Madiba Restaurant has been bringing the home cooking of South African Kitchens to New York tables.

Madiba menu features Durban samosas, oxtail stew, and bobotie, a Cape Town Malay dish of curried ground meat, yellow rice and raisins.

The festive, party-friendly mood is fueled by African pop and sweet house cocktails, and winds down happily with parting smiles and handshakes at the door.

Le Grin Restaurant Bronx:
Address: 454 E 168th St, Bronx, NY 10456
Phone: +1 (718) 292-8764
Opening Hours: 9am–3am

Le Grin is the place in Bronx to eat the best of Ivorian and French West African delicacies.

Wafels & Dinges Manhattan:
Address: 15 Avenue B (at E 2nd St) New York, NY 10009

Opening Hours: 9am–10pm
Phone: +1 (646) 257-2592

Roughly translates to Waffles and Things in Dutch. But basically, the “things” are the toppings on the crisp-on-the-outside, chewy-on-the-inside golden Belgian waffles. From Bartlett pears with walnut blueberry crumble to bacon, peanut butter and banana, there is a whole world out there that can open up with the help of a waffle iron. Not just for the sweet inclined, there are also savoury waffles, piled with diverse toppings from salmon to cheese.

If you love Wafels, they are Your Ultimate Destination.

So when ever you are in New York city make sure you try out those spots and don’t forget to let me know what you think.
