The First Annual U.S-Africa Energy Summit holds this September in Wisconsin

The International Business Resource Center (IBRC) at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and the Council on African Security and Development (CASADE) is set to convene the first U.S – Africa Energy Summit to be held in Madison, Wisconsin, from September 18 -19, 2017.

The Summit seeks to offer firms and investors in the energy sector in sub-Saharan Africa the means and opportunities to seriously address the perennial shortage of electricity supply in their respective countries through collaborations and partnerships with US-based firms, funding from growth fund managers, and financial institutions that specialize in energy projects.

According to the host and Director of CASADE, Prof John Ifediora:

This is a solution-driven summit and the potential benefits and the economic impact of the summit on African energy firms and related industries are remarkable. The summit offers firms in Africa several opportunities to expand their domestic capabilities in terms of product development and service competitiveness; access to current technology and equipment; expansion of market share, and enhancement of job creation with attendant beneficial externalities that impact economic growth.”

The welcome address of the summit will be delivered by Wisconsin’s political leadership: Executive Governor of Wisconsin, Scott K. Walker; U.S. Senator, Tammy Baldwin, U.S. Congresswoman, Gwen Moore and the Mayor of Madison Wisconsin Paul. R. Soglin.

The speakers at the summit comprise of global experts in the Energy sector: Professor Steven Chu (U.S Secretary for Energy 2009 – 13); Attorney Steve Hurley (Hurley, Burnish & Stanton), Alan Perlstein (Director, Mid-West Energy), including Nigeria’s Former Minister of Power, Dr. Bert. O. Nnaji; Nigeria’s Former Minister of Finance, Dr. Kalu I. Kalu; Former Minister of Commerce, Hon Precious Ngelale; and Patricia L. Kampling, President and CEO, Alliant Energy, USA, amongst other notable experts.

The US-Africa energy summit is designed to be an annual event with alternating venues in Africa and the United States, thus providing maximum exposure of what the summits have to offer to an ever-increasing pool of participants.
