Feast of Commonwealth action live on SuperSport

Eighteen countries across the continent, will compete at the 21st Commonwealth Games in Australia starting on April 4.

With 275 medals up for grabs across 18 sport codes there will be endless action, the bulk of it to be broadcast live on SuperSport.

The World of Champions has secured exclusive pay television rights across Sub-Saharan Africa, ensuring viewers can watch the like of Olympic champion Caster Semenya, Luvo Manyonga and the Blitzbokke Sevens team.

Botswana’s Nijel Amos will be favoured in the 800m, especially as world record holder David Rudisha will be absent. It could be a big haul for Botswana, especially as Babaloki Thebe and Isaac Makwala will battle it out for 400m gold.

Nigeria’s big star will be Blessing Okagbare, looking to defend her sprint double from Glasgow, while Kenya’s main hopes will be invested in Helen Obiri (5000m) and Conseslus Kipruto (3000m steeplechase).

SuperSport will receive seven broadcast feeds from the Gold Coast, the most relevant of which will be broadcast on four dedicated DStv channels (which will also be available on the go via DStv Now).

These will be SS11, SS12, SS13 and SS14, available on the Compact package and above.

Two-hour daily highlights will be broadcast on SS10, which is also available on the Access package.

The intention is to broadcast every medal event live. In addition to the live action broadcasts, there will be two daily highlight packages: one for day time (10am) and another for evening sessions (6pm), repeated in prime time (8pm).

As Queensland is eight hours ahead of South Africa, events typically run from 1am to 5pm (SAST).

The opening ceremony will be on Wednesday, April 4 (11.55am CAT) with the closing scheduled for April 15 (12.25pm CAT).

African medal hopes will lie primarily in athletics, netball, rugby Sevens and swimming.
