OnePlus 7 Pro: Everything you need to know!

The OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro saw plenty of attention from the rumor mill before today’s big announcement. But now the company has made everything officially official. At today’s official unveiling, OnePlus finally revealed the OnePlus 7 Pro and all of its flagship features.

The OnePlus 7 Pro features a larger screen than previous models, measuring in at 6.67 (3120×1440) inches. OnePlus calls the display a “fluid AMOLED display”, and says it’s a breakthrough in technology. It has over 93% screen-to-body ratio. The OnePlus 7 Pro has a faster, more responsive in-display fingerprint sensor. It takes only .21 seconds to unlock. The screen itself is a Quad HD+ panel. It supports HDR10 and HDR10+. Unlike the OnePlus 7, though, this variant doesn’t boast a teardrop notch on the top of the display. Instead, OnePlus has adopted a pop-out camera on the top of the phone, meaning there’s more display to enjoy.

There will be a trace of blue light around the phone’s display when the screen is off, which will show you notifications that come in. The display automatically filters out blue light. The fluid AMOLED display also features a 90Hz refresh rate.

There is a 16-megapixel front-facing camera in the OnePlus 7 Pro, which can pop out in just half a second. OnePlus reiterated that the pop-out camera is durable, too. The company tested the opening function over 300,000 times, and showed it holding up an almost 50-pound cube. The phone can detect when it’s in free fall and automatically retract the camera as well.

Meanwhile, around back, there is a triple camera setup. There is an ultra-wide, a normal shooter, and a zoom camera as well. The primary camera is a 48-megapixel, half-inch sensor. Each individual pixel is 72% larger than previous models. There is a 7-element lens design, offering crisper performance. It has optical image stabilization as well. There is an 8MP 3x optical zoom and OIS shooter for the secondary camera. Finally, the third ultra-wide camera is a 16-megapixel sensor. It offers an 117-degree view.

OnePlus is also introducing “UltraShot”, which uses smart algorithms to promote better shadows and lighting. It uses pixel beaming technology, to combine pixels for better low-light results. And all of this happens with every short automatically. There is a three-part autofocus system as well, making it easier to make sure the moment is in focus.

On the performance side of things, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor inside. That’s coupled with an Adreno 640 GPU. The OnePlus 7 Pro has up to 12GB of RAM (or choose 6GB or 8GB). With “RAM Boost”, it configured available RAM to pre-load your most frequently used apps and games. You can run up to 64 apps simultaneously with this feature. You can choose up to 255GB of built-in storage. The cooling system has been redesigned and is a liquid cooling system now, meant to keep everything cooler while under taxing usage. The battery measures in at 4000mAh. Warp Charge now features even faster charging, offering 20 minutes of charging to get to 50 percent battery life.

The OnePlus 7 Pro also features dual speakers, one at the top of the phone and the other at the bottom. OnePlus says these are dual speakers, with powerful and balanced sound. 90% less distortion than on previous devices, with “real stereo separation”. The phone also supports Dolby Atmos sound for even better, 3D sound. The OnePlus 7 Pro also features a better haptic feedback engine for better vibrations.

Of course, the OnePlus 7 Pro will run OxygenOS (with Android 9 Pie). This new version will focus on software performance and battery longevity. OnePlus says it will be committed to Android updates with two years of regular software updates, and three years of Android security patches. With the new software, there will be screen recording built into the software. The navigational gestures are faster and smoother as well.

Zen Mode is meant to build healthier habits. Open the app and for the next 20 minutes you’ll only be able to receive phone calls, use the camera, and make emergency calls. Zen Mode gives users a way to disengage from their smartphone.

Colors: Mirror Gray, Nebula Blue, and in June Almond. There will be new cases and screen protectors for the new model. The OnePlus 7 Pro will retail starting at $669, then go up to $699, and $749. It goes on sale this Friday, May 17 at T-Mobile stores and on the carrier’s website. It will also be available on OnePlus’s website.

Trade in program is new, too. You can quickly trade in an eligible device (all major brands are included) and put that towards a new phone.
