VIDEO: The Voice SA Season 3 – A shocking farewell to Amy

In a shock voting result tonight (Sunday, 23 June 2019) 26-year-old Amy Tjasink from Cape Town received the fewest votes and reached the end of her The Voice South Africa Season 3 journey. This was the first time Amy landed in the Danger Zone and her surprise departure only proves once again that every single vote counts at this stage of the competition.

Amy has traveled the world entertaining guests on cruise ships and even got promoted to Music Director before bidding that glamorous life goodbye to release her own album, “Simplify Me”, last year. “I stopped working on cruise ships because I was becoming detached from my real dream of releasing my own music,” she explained. Amy returned to South Africa last year from her new home with her fiancé in London specifically to audition for The Voice SA

Riky Rick and Francois van Coke both turned for Amy in her Blind Audition and Francois campaigned hard on behalf of #TeamVanCoke, but Amy confessed that she had wanted to be on #TeamRiky all along. And it turned out to be a musical match made in heaven, as the rapper clearly grew to adore his tiny protégé over the months. “You’ve gone through this competition being the cool and cute girl-next-door, and you’ve added bad-ass to those titles,” he praised her.

“Leaving The Voice SA at this stage is bittersweet,” Amy noted. “But I’ve already come so much further than I thought I would.” Amy admitted that self-belief was always difficult for her, and being on The Voice SA changed her whole outlook on life, she said. “I’m just so grateful that you guys chose me to be on this adventure,” she said.

After weeks of spectacular performances, tonight The Voice SA Season 3 Talent was whittled down to only six performers, and this week’s all-important vote will determine which of the Top 5 will sing for South Africa’s vote next week and who will be named winner of season 3 the week thereafter (Sunday 7 July).

An account of tonight’s performances:

First to perform for the viewers’ votes tonight was the only remaining #TeamVanCoke Talent, Tasché Burger (18) from Brackenfell, singing Adele’s megahit “Set Fire to the Rain”. “There’s no doubt that that was incredible,” said Riana Nel. Francois said he got goosebumps on his face! “That was incredible, I loved it!” he said.

Siki Jo-Ann Qwazi (25) from Port Elizabeth belted out the Whitney Houston power-ballad “The Greatest Love of All”. “I could not be prouder,” said her coach, Riana Nel.

Soné Joubert (27) from Gordon’s Bay sang “Bring Die Hoop Weer Terug” from #TeamRiana co-coach Jo Black. LIRA pointed out how much Soné has had to overcome to stay in the competition and she predicted a big career for her. “What I see in you is someone whose heart is so pure, and your work ethic is unbelievable,” Riana noted.

P.E.’s Eon Claude le Roux (27) performed a stirring rendition of the Boyz II Men R’nB classic “End of the Road”. “You sang it better than Boyz II Men ever did!” Francois raved. “I don’t know how many times I can say this, but I’m very proud of you. Very, very proud of you,” said his coach, Riky Rick.

Bonteheuwel’s PJ Twins (26) hoped to impress the voting fans with the Josh Groban hit “When You Say You Love Me”. Their coach, LIRA, encouraged the twins to work harder after landing in the Danger Zone this week. “I look forward to this week,” she told them.

Yahto Kraft (18) from Alberton, who spent some time in the Danger Zone tonight for the second week in a row, closed the show with a rock version of Lorde’s hit, “Royals”. “This is really where you are in your element, I love the drama and the theatre of it all,” Francois raved.
