AUDIO: Nova FT. Fasina – Can’t Complain
The dust hasn’t even settled on his latest single ‘Precious Diamond’ featuring Toronto songstress Katasha J, which is being championed by the likes of Noctis Magazine, KAZI Magazine and Picky Magazine, and builds on the recent support he has been receiving from Native Magazine, MTV Base, OkayAfrica and Trace Urban among others, but Toronto-based Nigerian alternative afrofusion artist NOVA has just unveiled another monster track titled ‘CAN’T COMPLAIN’, this time featuring Nigerian rising star and vibes maker FASINA, as we continue to inch towards the release of his highly anticipated fourth studio project S.T.A.Y II.
The infectious ‘Can’t Complain’ was produced by burgeoning Nigerian beatsmith BeatsByDamie, and it sees Nova collaborating with fellow alternative forerunner Fasina for the first time, and the outcome is a glorious afrofusion track, with lush R&B, pop and alté leanings. Thematically, ‘Can’t Complain’ is exactly as Nova explains it, “Can’t Complain is all about a good time for everyone involved”, and with signs showing that spring is finally springing, ‘Can’t Complain’ is the perfect soundtrack for that good time vibe when we can all go back outside.
Speaking about how ‘Can’t Complain’ came about and the collaboration with Fasina, Nova says, “I was thinking of recording the perfect song/gbedu for a vibe session with the crew. The track was definitely inspired by the all too familiar struggle to see who controls the music when I hang out with my friends. One thing I knew for sure is, as long as the music is banging then we can’t complain. I have been listening to Fasina since I heard ‘5 Star’ back in 2016/2017, and as soon as I recorded this, I felt he would be the perfect person to feature. So I reached out to my homie Oma Mahmud and he connected me with Fasina, and the rest is history”.
