Kanye West Scores 17 Nominations at The 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards
With his successful “Watch the Throne” project and upcoming G.O.O.D. Music compilation album, Kanye West shows his domination in Hip-Hip music. The boyfriend of Kim Kardashian leads the pack of 2012 BET Hip-Hop Award nominations with a total of 17 nods, vying for MVP of the Year, Video Director of the Year and Lyricist of the Year among others.
His single “Mercy”, which features 2 Chainz, Big Sean and Pusha T, emerges in Best Hip-Hop Video, Reese’s Perfect Combo, Best Club Banger and People’s Champ categories. Meanwhile, his The Throne duet with Jay-Z lands him 6 nods, including Best Live Performer which also sees him being nominated as an individual.
2 Chainz and Drake trail behind Yeezy with 13 and 11 nods respectively, facing off the “E.T.” rapper in Best Hip-Hop Video, Reese’s Perfect Combo, MVP of the Year and Track of the Year just to name some. 2 Chainz and Yeezy are additionally up against each other for Made You Look Award, while the former appears alongside A$AP Rocky, Ca$h Out, Future and Meek Mill in Rookie of the Year field.
Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Meek and J. Cole are among other stars who get multiple nominations at the annual prize-giving event, which is set to air October 9. Comedian Mike Epps is on board as the host, while the performers will be announced later. The show will also include an all-star tribute to the late producer Chris Lighty.
