Pulse updates iOS, Android apps to 3.0

Critically-acclaimed mobile news application Pulse News has today updated their line of mobile applications. Both the iOS and Android versions of the application have been pushed to version 3.0, which brings with it a whole host of new features, without sacrificing the abundance of usefulness that was featured in previous versions.

The new features are mostly ones that the userbase has asked for in a variety of ways, whether that be tweeting, using the feedback forms on the website and in the apps, or just e-mailing – some of the most requested items have made their way into the applications. For example, the search feature within the app now allows searching of Google, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr, YouTube, Reddit and even Blekko right from within Pulse.

Furthermore, pages can now be renamed and reordered within the new sidebar, where the pages now appear instead of above the feed. Now, the sidebar (much like that in the Facebook or WordPress apps) comes in from the left, and displays all the pages which, when tapped, display their feeds. Conveniently, users are now able to add as many sources as they wish to each page and, as usual, reorder and rename them as and when they desire. Additionally, infinite scrolling has been added – in other words, there’s no end to a source’s stream, the next items just keep on coming.

Editing pages are now easier than before, too. Just tapping the edit button on a page zooms out, allowing the page name, source names and source positions to be changed with ease. On top of that, each source has a cross and a pair of scissors, for deleting the source and moving it to another page, respectively – handy little buttons, right there.

In the sidebar is where everything is happening in the new Pulse: adding content, adding pages and locating pages is all over there. Swiping from the left edge to the right will bring up the sidebar from anywhere in the application.

Pulse News 3.0 is now available for iOS (the two iPhone and iPad apps are now one) and Android devices, from the Play and App Stores respectively. Android users also receive newly designed widgets for homescreens, in various sizes, with improved notifications on both platforms. The web version over at pulse.me already had a lot of these new features, such as the sidebar, so the update could well be to make the transition from mobile to desktop more seamless than ever.
