D1D2 Sport Acquires Exclusive Rights To The Nigerian National Team Friendly Matches
D1D2 Sport has acquired a package of media rights for Nigeria soccer team games from the country’s national association, beginning with a friendly against Venezuela in Miami on 14th November.
The broadcaster has acquired exclusive global broadband, mobile and internet rights and television rights in ‘Europe, Scandinavia, UAE, Australia and Sudan’, according to a statement.
D1D2 chief executive Mahesh Bajaj said the deal was based around the spike in interest likely after Nigeria’s qualification for January’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Bajaj said: “On a commercial basis if we just simply consider the amount of Nigerian nationals living overseas and the rise of African football over the last decade then we pulled out all the stops at the last minute to get the deal formally endorsed by the Nigerian Football Federation”.
