Glo Launches Ultra Fast Internet with New Glo Bolt

Subscribers on the Glo network are about to witness a thrilling browsing experience following the launch by the company of a super-fast internet service, Glo Bolt, formerly Glo Netpro, the repackaged High Speed Internet (HSI) service runs on the HSPA network and is backed by the power of the revolutionary Glo 1 international submarine cable.

The service has also been enhanced with two exciting features: Share Subscription and Gift Subscription which enable subscribers to share their subscriptions or send subscriptions as gifts respectively.

This is the first time that any mobile internet services provider is introducing such a feature in the Nigerian market.

Ashutosh Tiwary, Globacom’s GM, Marketing, said that Glo Bolt thrives on “speed and performance and, with the service, the subscriber is always a winner because we recognize that speed is a driver of value”.

Tiwary added that Glo Bolt has been enabled to out-perform competing products in the market, because of the superior network quality of Glo 1.

“The speed of Glo Bolt is phenomenal and this is reflected in the choice of name. The service offers users world-class internet service never before experienced in Nigeria and facilitates easy handling of internet applications on modems, tablets, smart phones and other devices. Our customers are assured of the best browsing experience and best value for money,” Tiwary declared.

On the subscription plans, Tiwary explained that the Sharing feature offers the subscriber convenience and affordability by enabling him to share his internet subscription with his friends, family and loved ones instead of buying multiple subscriptions for each and every one of them.

“For instance, a customer with wife and two kids can buy only one subscription plan and share with his three loved ones instead of buying four subscription plans. The beneficiaries will receive an SMS notifying them of the shared plan and how they can share the plan,” he explained.

On the gifting feature, Tiwary said a Glo customer can now buy an internet subscription and send it to friends, family members and loved ones as ‘gifts’. This feature is especially useful when the person buying the gift does not want to share his subscription with the intended recipient. The gift recipient will be notified of the gift via customized SMS from the sender.

He also explained that the superb internet experience to be enjoyed by subscribers to Glo Bolt internet service includes high speed data download and upload, ultra fast messaging, chatting experience, exciting gaming moments and mega fast video streaming.

“A Glo Bolt user has a uniquely pleasant experience doing video streaming, gaming and instant messaging because of the speed and reliability of the internet service. The enhanced speed makes it possible to do video streaming or gaming seamlessly without distortions,” he stated.

He noted that the upgrade has increased the network communications channel, thus enhancing the rate at which data is transferred via Glo Bolt. “It is a pleasant experience for the user as he achieves faster turnaround time. This is because he saves plenty of time downloading or uploading files on the internet,” added Tiwary.

Gabriel Olanrewaju, Globacom’s head, 3G and e-Top Up Sales, who unveiled the product at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday said that with the interconnection of Glo Bolt with Glo 1 cable and subsequent network upgrade, the new service offers users unparalleled internet speed and reliability.

Other distinguishing features of the new service are its stability as well as wide coverage of the Glo network which makes it possible for users to enjoy reliable internet service in any part of the country.

Olanrewaju said the integration of Glo Bolt with Glo 1 was in line with the company’s commitment to offer world class internet services to drive business and commercial endeavour through the submarine cable. “Glo 1 has infinite capacity and is thus able to offer sufficient bandwidth for individuals and businesses in the West Africa sub-region. We recognize the potential of the internet in driving growth and development and we are confident Glo Bolt will help in that regard,” Olanrewaju added.

It is expected that Glo Bolt will revolutionize the internet services market because of the phenomenal capacity of the Glo 1 submarine cable. The facility has a bandwidth capacity of 640 gigabyte, scaleable to 2.4 terabytes, and a guaranteed 99% uptime reliability.
