Nothing brings families together like food – whether it’s a sit-down feast that calls for a gathering or a family-run business where everyone has to have a say. That couldn’t be truer than in Discovery Channel’s all new series, Meat Men, which sizzles onto our screens on Sunday, 3 March at 3:10pm.
The show revolves around the LaFrieda family who are at the helm of a third-generation wholesale meat business in New York. Pat Sr, together with his cousin Mark Pastore and Pat Jr have managed to build the high-standards LaFrieda meat business from the ground up and must work together to meet the high demands of their growing business.
But this is easier said than done as they are constantly at loggerheads with one another.
At the beginning of the series Pat Jr has to make a custom burger blend for one of the hottest chefs in America. Meanwhile, Pat Sr is determined to hang the iconic LaFrieda Meats sign on their new premises.
Here are three other food-fanatic families to look out for on DStv whose passion for food – whether its creating it, eating it, selling it or keeping it in the family – runs deep:
The Fieri family
Number one on our list is everyone’s favourite chef, Guy Fieri. He hops behind the wheel of his red Camaro and travels coast to coast in America seeking out the most scrumptious food in the most unusual places on Diners Drive-Ins & Dives. Catch the new season on Monday, 11 March at 3:25pm on Food Network.
Following close in Guy’s footsteps are his sons Hunter and Ryder, both of whom have appeared on Guy’s shows on Food Network. Hunter also contributed to Guy’s book Cooking with Kids, while Ryder has served as the inspiration for one or two of his own recipes.
Then there’s “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro who runs Carlo’s Bakery, in New Jersey with the help of his three sisters, Maddalena Castano, Grace Faugno and Mary Sciarrone, their husbands and a whole host of other family members who also have their hand in the Valastro family business pie!
The bakery churns out hundreds of cakes, pastries and other delicacies daily. Not to mention the special request orders which they receive from customers – a giant flip flop cake, a roulette table, the leaning tower of pisa and more.
The Valastro clan make all of this possible, but not without some good old fun and family mayhem. Catch The Cake Boss on Monday, 4 March at 1:30pm on Discovery TLC.
