2go, a mobile messenger that allows the users to communicate for free with friends is set to launch on Android platform by next week.

Today, 2go is the largest social network in Nigeria with over nine million active users and is one of Africa’s largest mobile social networks, said Marc Herson, a director at the social network with a base in South Africa.

According to him, 2go is a trending network that users, usually between the ages 13 to 18, have found lovely and interesting.

They activate on to the application to check on and chat with families and friends for free. That is the unique proposition about reaching out to loved ones.

“Since inception, the successes of 2go have been very much around feature phones which still make 90% of the market in Nigeria out of over 100 million mobile connections, said Herson, adding that, “The other ten percent are on smartphones. Even the ten percent, you can divide them between Blackberry and the others. The platforms are open to brands, marketers and others who are into awareness creation; in other words, feature phones still give people what they want, especially those who could not afford smartphones.

“However, we are now focusing on the direction of the market. For instance, the smartphone market is estimated to receive major attention and boost between now and 2016; going to grab 30% of the market. Thus, we are moving fast. We are on Blackberry already; we now have couple of millions of users on smartphones, Blackberry is important, but android promises even more,” he noted.

The director maintained that team of 2go experts have been working tirelessly, “We are looking at application which we are going to launch in matter of weeks.

The first take off will be on Apple Store, and we are discussing with other manufacturers so that 2go app will be bundled in their devices”.

He described the network as guarantees, in some ways, a more honest and expressive form of communication, because people do not have to worry what others will think of them.
