Maltina Dance All Season 7: Emotions Flow As Asiyefia Family Leaves

maltina dance all

It was an emotional time for the Asiyefia family as they bid farewell to the Maltina Dance All Academy after their performances at Our Own and Wazobia dance styles fell short of the standards in the academy. Their inability to impress the judges led to their eviction. The number one family dance TV show in Nigeria has thus far witnessed two emotional and tearful nights as three families have so far been evicted. The Dosa and Clement families left after the 60s-70s and 80s-90s performances. Now it’s the turn of the Asiyefias’.

After Our Own dance performance – a dance style that incorporate Nigerian unique dance styles like Alanta, Azonto, etighi etc – the Asiyefia and Enweribe families were put up for possible eviction. The Ekado and Ebute families joined the two families for possible eviction after the Wazobia performance. In the battle to remain in the academy, the four families had to perform the two dance styles to prove to the judges that they still have what it takes to remain in the academy in the run up to the live grand finale slated for September 21 at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

The Our Own dance performance opened with the Ekado family performing the 2013 song Don’t tell me Nonsense by D’Banj; they were followed by the Enweribe family dancing to the 1976 song Zombie by Fela Kuti. The Asiyefia family hit the stage with another 2013 song The Kick by Wande Coal while the Ebute family closed the first part of the show with the 1988 song Rumba Dance by Mike Okri.

The Wazobia dance performance – a dance style that incorporate Nigerian’s indigenous dances – started with the Enweribe family dancing to the Sato dance from Badagry, Lagos State; the Ekado family performed the Uyai dance from Akwa-Ibom while the Ebute and Asiyefia families performed the Sharo dance from Sokoto, Sokoto State.

The judges were impressed with the hard work and effort each family made by fine tuning their various dance routines to prove that they wanted to retain their stay in the Academy. However, one family had to be evicted and after much deliberation the Asiyefia family was asked to leave.

The Asiyefia family were devastated to have missed the chance of getting to the grand finale of the show. But they were thankful for the opportunity to get into the Maltina Academy and the family representative, Emmanuel Asiyefia promised to pursue his dream of dancing, “I will put all that I learnt in the academy into practice as I move on to fulfil my dream of becoming a professional dancer. All this wouldn’t have been possible without the exposure I got here at the academy. I thank Maltina, the dance instructors and the judges for always pointing out our errors. It was indeed an experience of a lifetime”. Emmanuel added.

After exchanging pleasantries with the other members backstage the family bid the show good bye for the last time.

Mrs Ngozi Nkwoji, the Senior Brand Manager, Maltina, said that each eviction was always emotional but that only one winner could emerge at the end of the show. Thus the judges had the responsibility to ensure that only the best of the best families made it to the grand finale. Then Nigerians will vote for the winning family.

She added that the winning family will go home with the grand prize of a whooping sum of N6 million and of course, a brand new car. The first and second runners up will also get N1 million and N500, 000 respectively.

With only seven families remaining in the house and two dance styles to go, the families will have to put in all the extra efforts they can if they are to get to the grand finale which takes place live at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos on September 21.
