Sizzling series in September on DStv

DStv Explora hand on main

September is set to be a sizzling month with an exciting line-up of shows that are sure to put a spring in your step.

First up Dallas fans can look forward to the Season 3 premiere on Tuesday, 2 September at 20:00 on M-Net Series Showcase. This scintillating series picks up where the 1978 version left off with plenty of conflict between the Ewings and Barnes families. We’ve waited a couple of months since the Season 2 finale and are intrigued about how the series will cope without Larry Hagman (JR Ewing). Tune in to find out if John Ross will take after his father’s villainous mastermind footsteps and if he’ll succeed in taking down Bobby and Christopher in the struggle for oil pumping rights on the farm.

In keeping with the drama thread, Gabriel Byrne puts on an impressive performance as troubled pathologist Quirke in the series of the same name premiering on Friday, 5 September at 20:00 on BBC Entertainment. The series is set in the 1950s, which adds great dimension to the storyline involving Quirke’s relentless search for the truth behind the death of a young girl amid busy bars and the hustle and bustle of Dublin at the time. Watch Quirke on DStv Catch Up.

Orphan Black, which starts on Thursday, 4 September at 20:00 on Lifetime, is the most anticipated series of the month. It stars talented actress Tatiana Maslany who gives her best performance in the series. Funny enough, she was snubbed for an Emmy nomination this year. The series sees her try to escape an abusive relationship by assuming the identity of someone that looks just like her. The kicker sci-fi element comes in when she realises she is a clone and there are many others like her. So Maslany plays several characters in the series. Why don’t you tune in and decide for yourself if she is in fact deserving of an Emmy Award or not?

Now we all love a good reality TV watch and there’s nobody more qualified to deliver on this than socialite and Beverly Hills housewife Lisa Vanderpump. With her larger-than-life personality and massive restaurant empire of more than 26 restaurants, she gives us a look into how she does it with Vanderpump Rules starting on Monday, 8 September at 20:45 on Lifetime. One of the keys to her success is probably that she keeps her staff on a tight leash. See this and more as she launches a new classy restaurant that every socialite will be queuing to get onto the VIP list.

How sad were you when Chyler Leigh who plays Lexie Grey on Grey’s Anatomy died on the show? Now we’ve got a reason for you to celebrate because Chyler is back on our TV screens in a high-paced series, Taxi Brooklyn, starting on Monday, 15 September on Universal. You might not recognise her though because she’s got a new hairdo and feisty new attitude as she plays a cop whose driver’s license is revoked and so she teams up with a taxi driver to get around. Needless to say, they have a smashing time!

Michael McIntyre is set to dish out the comedy on DStv this month with his brand new series,The Michael McIntyre Chat Show on 23 September at 21:35 on BBC Entertainment. This is no stand-up comedy special, but an interview-style show as McIntyre puts celebrities under the spotlight and together they bring on the funny.

For all the Kardashian-style drama be sure to tune in to Keeping Up with the Kardashians as part two of Season 9 premieres on Sunday, 7 September at 21:00 on E! Entertainment. If you’re the ultimate Kardashian fan then keep it locked on E! and you’ll be treated to glimpses of the much-talked-about KimYe wedding as well.

There’s even something for documentary lovers in September with Storage Hunters on 26 September at 19:10 on Discovery Channel as one man’s junk becomes another man’s treasure.

DC Comics and Batman fans are going to most probably become seriously impatient this September thanks to the fact that they’re going to have to wait until 30 September to watch the brand new series Gotham at 20:30 on M-Net. The show stars Sons of Anarchy’s Donal Logue and Jada Pinkett Smith. Now if you’re expecting the Bat mobile and the Bat signal in the sky then you’d better hold on to that because the series is more about Detective Gordon’s escapades trying to solve the high-profile Wayne’s murder case, how the famous villains The Riddler, Joker and so on came about and Gordon’s interactions with young Bruce. Gotham will be Express from the US with the episode airing on 23 September at 01:00, then on 30 September at 22:30 on M-Net. Also available on DStv Catch Up.

So you’d better strap in this September because it’s going to be an awesome TV viewing month.
