VIDEO: Respect The Talent FT. Ezra James – Don’t Blame It

Respect The Talent (RTT) is one of the first afro-hip hop groups to come out of Australia. With a unique blend of African house drum beats, electronic synths, catchy hooks and infectious hip hop flows, RTT have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with.
The group consists of four members with Southern African origins and eastern upbringings. J-wilz (Zambia), E.T.C (Zimbabwe but also grew up in Uganda and Kenya), Davewave (Botswana) and Syan beats (Zambia but also grew up in Botswana) are the four members. Respect the Talent officially became a group in July 2013 even though the members had been working with each other previously as individual artists.

When asked why the name ‘Respect The Talent’? The answer is simply because we as artists and aspiring professionals, be it in sports or creative arts, who take their craft seriously and with a passion ask that the audience recognize and acknowledges this talent with a mutual respect. In retrospect we as individuals who have talents have a duty to use this talent for the benefit of the people and if we do not use our God given talents we are not ‘Respecting The Talent’. Just like Jesus said in the parable of the talents the servant who hid his talent and did not use it had their talent taken away from them.

Since becoming a group in July RTT has enjoyed local success in Perth city, with a number of performances, which included the 2013 Rock The Bridge, Starco Ent Latin Quarters and the Scorcher Fest at the Rosemount Hotel. The highlight of their performances would have to be performing as the opening act for Colombian superstar J Balvin at The Deen courtesy of Starco Ent. RTT was able to achieve this with only one official single out. ‘African House Party’ (which can be found on itunes) proved to be a major success appearing on Radio Afro’s Afro beats 2013 songs of the year at #9. The group released the official music video to African House Party on 13 January 2014.

The group is scheduled to release their first mixtape ‘Zambezi Flows’ in February 2014 with two versions one for itunes, Google Play and another free download on dat piff.com. The groups second single ‘Weekend’ is yet to be released around the same time and will be found on the itunes and Google Play version. The group has also embarked on new endeavors such as the release of ‘Respect The Talent clothing’ and look to branch off into more business activities including endorsements.

Enjoy!
