Zee World, the English general entertainment channel for African viewers, has registered a strong audience share in the month following its launch.

The channel, from Indian media giant Zee Entertainment Enterprises, went live on MultiChoice’s sub-Saharan African pay-TV platform DStv on 3 February. Among its programming it shows Bollywood movies, TV series, reality and variety shows dubbed in English.

Zee World ranked in the top ten channels on the DStv platform within the English General Entertainment space, according to TAMS South Africa (TG DStv all Adults, Market – National, Period – week ten, 2015).

“Zee World delivered a weekly GRP of 31 which is an impressive figure for a new channel on a pay platform. Almost all the original telecast of programmes on Zee World has appeared within the top 50 programme list which is a great success for us. We are pleased with the results and can only grow from strength to strength,” said Harish Goyal, CEO, Zee TV South Africa.

Laail, Zee World’s leading series, was positioned 17th in the top performing shows across the region’s English GEC sector, registering an average of more than 30 seconds spent per viewer.

The channel is available as part of the DStv Premium, Extra, Compact, Family Access pack in sub-Saharan Africa. It is also available on the Multichoice digital terrestrial television (DTT) service, GOtv.
