The new and smaller, but more powerful DStv Explora 2 decoder coming soon to Nigeria

MultiChoice Nigeria is set to announce the launch of an updated version of its previous Explora decoder called DStv Explora 2.

The new version of the decoder according to my sources, will sell for around N30,000 and bundled with installation and subscription.

The Explora 2 will come with a new compression technology and will help reduce the data charges DStv subscribers incur on Catch Up services.

To make the smaller hard drive work, the Explora 2 will only allow for roughly half the user recording space as its predecessor. However despite the smaller hard drive, the new Explora will have the same Catch Up and BoxOffice video on demand catalogue.

In addition to updating the decoder’s hardware, the Explora 2 will also have a new A7 remote, which features:

• Motion-sensored back-lit buttons
• Visual feedback when a button is pressed
• Low battery detection
• Use as a universal remote
• Dedicated ShowMax button
