VIDEO: The Voice Nigeria Season 2 – Round two of the Live Shows turned out to be Emotional, Nostalgia and Unforgettable

If the songs were not moving us through Africa, making quick stops overseas; they were taking us through time – from the good ol’ days to the pumping present!

African Flavours:

J’Dess from #TeamWaje was the first to kick start the African musical tour with   “Is it because I love you” by young Nigerian rapper, Keshinro Ololade, popularly known as Lil’ Kesh. Then #TeamPato’s Yimika, came through with another young Nigerian musician, Adekunle Gold’s romantic gbedu, “Sade”.

Idyl from #TeamTimi made a quick stop in 1990 South Africa with Lucky Dube’s hit track, “Prisoner” before Victor also from #TeamTimi, brought things back to Naija with Banky W’s “Jaiye Ori Mi”. Finally for the African musical collection, #TeamYemi’s Majeeka performed the young Nigerian songress – Seyi Shay’s hit music, “Yolo”.

Taking us back in time:

And then there were those jams that sent us back in time – from the 1960s to the very early 2000s!

Jahtell from #TeamTimi took on Etta James “Something gat a hold of me” which was first released in 1964. Next on the time line was 1991 Michael Jackson’s hit song, “Remember the time” from the ‘Dangerous’ album which #TeamYemi’s Syemca performed. A year later in the timeline was Annie C with Sade Adu’s hypnotic “No Ordinary Love”, which was first released in 1992. Still in the 90s, Arewa brought us Toni Braxton’s 1996 unforgettable song, “Unbreak my heart”.

Finally we were transported to the sexy 2000s – 2001 to be exact, with Wilson’s Mary J Blige “No Drama” and Oge – Jennifer Lopez “Love don’t cost a thing”.

Back to present:

But like they say, it’s always sweet remembering the past but sooner or later we must return to the present and five of the talents performing last night helped bring us back to the present.

Obichi from #TeamWaje took on a hit song from one of America’s biggest musical songstress, Beyonce – “Freedom”. Shapera also took on another powerhouse musical songstress from Australia – SIA, performing her song, “She Wolf” which she did with David Guetta. #TeamPato’s Ebube did a rendition of the Norwegian duo – Nico & Vinz’s hit track, “Am I wrong?” And finally, #TeamPato, Daniel performed Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect”, while Kendris from #TeamTimi performed “24 Carat” by Bruno Mars.

Good byes:

While there was much to dance about with Nigeria saving Afolayan, Chris Rio, Wow and Bada, there were also heartbreaking moments last night with #TheVoiceNigeria having to say goodbye to eight very talented contestants – KessyDriz and Voke from #TeamPato, Jahnomso and Bunmi from #TeamYemi, Favour and Efezino from #TeamWaje and Wolei and Amarachi from #TeamTimi.

But like they say, when one door closes, another will open – just take a look at season one’s talent and what they are up to today! Keep shining!
