September is Fight Month on Kwesé TV

We have some massive fight events lines lined up for you this month, including the biggest middleweight clash of the year: Golovkin v Alvarez. Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan owns three middleweight titles, and is hailed by the critics as the world’s best middleweight (72.6 kg). But, he won’t have things all his own way against the Mexican Canelo Alvarez, who boasts an impressive 49-1-1 record, with 34 knockouts. As for Golovkin, he’s a beast in the ring, boasting an unbeaten record in 37 fights, with 34 knockouts. No wonder they’re billing the fight as ‘Supremacy’. Catch it LIVE on KS1, 17 September at 2:00 CAT.

Just before this fight you can see another LIVE middleweight tussle – Billy Joe Saunders vs Willie Monroe Jr (KS1, 16 September at 20:30 CAT) at London’s iconic Copper Box Arena. Saunders is defending his WBO middleweight title against Monroe, and if he wins he’ll become a prime contender for the winner of the Golovkin / Alvarez fight. It promises to be a fascinating evening of middleweight boxing. And, later in the month catch Paul Butler v Stuart Hall (KFS, 30 September at 21:00), which is a WBA Bantamweight World Title eliminator fight.

If you prefer the octagon to the square ring, we have loads of MMA action coming up this month. EFC 63 comes to you LIVE from Cape Town and Main Card Bouts include: Gorimbo (Zimbabwe) v Mazany (US); Da Rocha (Brazil) v Pritchard (South Africa), Mukulu (Congo) v Bagattin. Dave ‘Pain Train’ Mazany hails from Las Vegas, where UFC is based, and he believes UFC owner Dana White should give him a crack in his league. But first he must get past a certain lanky Zimbabwean by the name of Themba Gorimbo.

The other big fight is the Pritchard / Da Rocha match-up. Cameron Pritchard of South Africa will have his hands full when he takes on the Brazilian Jose Da Rocha, who is black belt Jiu-Jitsu. The EFC is one of the best MMA leagues in the world and caters for the fine fighters coming out of Africa. BAMMA, based in England, is Europe’s leading MMA league and Kwesé brings you BAMMA 31 (KS2, 15 September at 21:00 CAT) which comes to you LIVE from Wembley, with some great main-card bouts, including Chi ‘Chopper’ Lewis-Parry vs Maurice ‘The Gorilla’ Jackson.

And Kwesé also brings you Friday Fight Night, these are African events featuring up-and-coming fighters. Don’t miss the next Friday Fight Night (KFS, 29 September at 20:00 CAT) LIVE from the Carousel, Shimmy Beach Club, Cape Town.

And then to top it all we have a bunch of magazine shows dedicated to boxing and combat sports. If you’re nostalgic for the good ol’ days of boxing, look out for KOTV Classic Weekly on KS2. For a catch-up on boxing news from around the world there’s Kwesé Championship Boxing on KS2. And for those who enjoy MMA and martial arts we bring you Total Combat (KS1).
