NEW ON TV: CCTV Africa and "I LOVE AFRICA" mobile TV officially launched in Kenya
China Central Television has officially launched CCTV Africa, a news production center based in Kenya that focuses on African news and perspectives as well as international news.
CCTV Africa will provide a one-hour program every day (Africa Live, at 6pm WAT) at the early stage, broadcast through CCTV’s English news channel. The program focuses on news, but will also feature interviews with leading news-makers and documentaries.
The reports will cover political, economic, social and cultural aspects in the entire African continent.
At the same time, CCTV’s mobile TV application I LOVE AFRICA was also officially launched, after six months’ test broadcast.
Designed as a brand new platform for Africans to learn more about China and the world, CNTV, the Online Broadcast Center of CCTV, allows viewers in Africa to watch documentaries, educational programs, TV dramas and films through their mobile terminal devices.
A launch ceremony held in Kenyan capital Nairobi on Wednesday attracted a large field of guests, including Kenyan Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Minister of Information and Communication Samuel L. Poghisio, Minister of Tourism Najib Balala, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Information and Communication Bitanga Ndemoand, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Liu Guangyuan and CCTV Vice President Sun Yusheng.
“I want to congratulate CCTV, for choosing Kenya as the harbor whether be doing African news production. It is a great honor. It shows the growing friendly and brotherly ties between Kenya and the People’s Republic of China on the one hand. And clear confidence by CCTV in our country,” said Kalonzo Musyoka, Kenyan Vice President.
The officials also joined the locals to play a Chinese drum and an African drum to represent the long-lasting friendship between China and Africa.
Also present at the occasion were people from various walks of life in the country and more than 100 Chinese now working in Kenya.
The launch of CCTV Africa marks CCTV’s successful establishment of its broadcast network over the African continent.
CCTV Africa has about 100 employees from different culture backgrounds, many of them are Kenyan citizens.
In order to ensure high-quality programming, CCTV Africa is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including two HD broadcasting studios.
“CCTV Africa will be a bridge between Africa and China, to enable the audience in China to understand Africa. And also for Africa audience to understand China,” said a hostess of CCTV Africa.
