MUSIC SPOTLIGHT: TIMOMATIC – THE NIGERIAN DEFINITION OF DESTINY
The definition of ‘destiny’ or ‘fate’ is described as a predetermined course of events, and it is by way of a series of opportunities, events and experiences, audiences have now found themselves under the spell of one of Sony Music Australia’s latest signings – Timomatic
Born in Nigeria, Timomatic immigrated to Australia with his family when he was only 10 months old. His father was an academic and was posted to different positions around the country, so after a stint in Canberra the Omaji’s found themselves living all around Australia. Even at an early age Timomatic’s love of music and performing was increasingly apparent to all those around him.
“My parents were always really into music; my dad played guitar and we’d always sing and dance around the house. When I was about nine my family joined a family band and started performing, and I was the percussionist for that band. In the intermission of those shows they’d let me come on and do my Michael Jackson impersonation. I was really into Michael Jackson at that age, and I learned how to mimic him really well, and I guess that’s how it all really began to kick off for me as a performer.”
Timomatic (aka Tim Omaji) is a singer, dancer, writer, choreographer and all round entertainer who is making his mark on the Australian music scene. After being signed by Sony Music Australia in 2011, Timomatic released his debut single “Set It Off”, selling triple platinum sales and reached No 1 on the Australian Artist Official ARIA Charts. He has most recently released his 2nd single “If Looks Could Kill”.
Appearing as a grand finalist on Channel Seven’s 2011 series of Australia’s Got Talent which was viewed by 2.8 million people, Timomatic has since been in high demand performing across the country including supporting international acts, Flo Rida, Salt-N-Pepa and Janet Jackson.
Tim has also appeared on Network Ten’s TV series So You Think You Can Dance and was cast in the lead role of Tyrone in Fame – The Musical.
Timomatic’s debut album ‘Welcome’ was written, performed, produced solely by himself and was released on iTunes in 2011. He acted as artistic director for the hip hop dance company “Kulture Break” based in Canberra, performing in Singapore, China, USA as well as touring nationally.
Tim has a Diploma in Entertainment.
