Gulder Ultimate Search Season 9: Episode 10 (GUS9 Warriors Play Dirty)

After being let through the Gate by Gatekeeper Christopher Okagbue around 3:00 am, the contenders followed a trail which led to a new site where they built their new camp from scratch. Chidi Mokeme, the Anchor man had given instructions that they should vacate their old camp and erect a new one, having passed through the first gate of the Gatekeeper. But this was after eating the sumptuous meal of fried rice and fish, provided by the Council of Elders. The contenders ate with their bare hands.

The day’s task was Tug of War. The battle was two-pronged. For the first battle, two teams comprising five contenders each – two males and three females – had to pull at both ends of the ropes and drop three hoops on a bamboo stick at both ends. The game ground was swampy and muddy. The team made up of Eronmose Paschal, Adah James, Patience Bonford, Priscilla Ezeh and Ogbuefi Michael beat the opposing team which had Uzor Osimpka, Ifet Iniobong, Nuhu Zigwayi, Ujam Chukwunonso and Udodi Onyinye.

For the second game, the contenders had to go head-to –head against a member of the opposing team in the same muddy tug of war game.

Uzor was up against Patience, who ensured that she was ‘waist-deep’ in the mud. Uzor lost to Patience after she lost grip of the rope. When Michael was pitched against Onyinye, it caused uproar given that he was obviously stronger. Michael tried to resist, but James, the team leader stood his ground. Onyinye publicly taunted Michael for agreeing to the mismatch; wondering why he could not pick on someone his size. Michael predictably won the match. He thought he would win the tug easily and attempted to pull Onyinye over with one hand.  He however had to resort to the use of both hands to win the game.

Micheal would later state that he was embarrassed when he was pitched against an obviously weaker Onyinye.

Paschal was disqualified for using his legs when he was up against Nuhu. Ifet further narrowed the gap for his team when Priscilla was disqualified for using her legs. She slid through and obviously tasted part of the mud; but Adah sealed victory for his team by beating Ujam.

After the games, all the contenders were soaked in mud from the strands of hair on their head, to the soles of their boots.
The reward for the winning team was the pride of victory. The punishment for the losing team was erecting a fence round their camp and also washing the muddy clothes of the members of the opposing team.

At The Place of The Talking Drum, The Council of Elders, through Chidi Mokeme, gave the contestants a drum and the gourd bead percussion instrument. They were required to make a song, drama, dance or dance drama presentation at the next Talking Drum.
