PICK OF THE DAY: Our War – BBC Knowledge at 8pm (WAT)

Our War returns with a second series of compelling stories from the war in Afghanistan, filmed and told by the soldiers themselves.

The first film features footage filmed by Arnhem Company, one of the Army’s most experienced units, during their three day mission deep into enemy territory. It is a mission that tests the soldiers to their limits.

In the second film, best friends Lieutenant Jimmy Clark and Second Lieutenant Luke Beetlestone share footage of their time in Helmand’s Death Valley, revealing the reality of soldiering in an area where the Taliban are increasingly confident and IED strikes are a regular occurrence.

The final film follows the devastating impact of an ambush on 7 Platoon of the Welsh Guards – a harrowing, blow-by-blow narrative of how soldiers actually behave when caught in an ambush by an unseen enemy, revealing the lasting impact of one hour on every man in the platoon.

Powerful and moving, these three films bring the harsh reality of war to the screens and offer a real insight into the lives and experiences of those on the front line.
