The much anticipated 20th season of the world’s most popular motoring show, Top Gear, returns to African television screens on Wednesday, 10 July on BBC Entertainment, channel 120 on DStv.
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May return in typically exhilarating form in this new six part series. They set out to race a car against an America’s Cup yacht up the coast of New Zealand, launch a highly scientific process to find the world’s fastest taxi, and do their bit for European economic turmoil by blasting across Spain in three ‘affordable’ supercars.
Kully Kaur-Bains, head of Programming SA, BBC Worldwide said: “Knowing how extremely popular Top Gear is in Africa, we cannot wait to air the first episode of this brand new series, especially in such close proximity to the UK premiere transmission. Fans should expect even more thrills and spills from Jeremy, Richard and James; and even more outlandish challenges that will keep them at the edge of their seats.”
The series will also see them apply their renowned scientific prowess at the famed Top Gear Technology Centre as they tackle the growing problem of flooding by designing a car that can turn into a hovercraft. The trio will also investigate the popularity of ‘soft-roader’ cars by making the presenters into caravan enthusiasts, and tests the Jaguar F-type, the Range Rover Sport and the new double decker Bus for London as part of an epic celebration of the many brilliant machines currently made in Britain.
Top Gear would not be complete without the famed power fuelled track tests of some of the world’s most desirable automotive machinery. The team will put the BAC Mono, Ford Fiesta ST, Peugeot 208 GTI, Renaultsport Clio 200 and Mercedes SLS Black through their paces around the hallowed tar of the Top Gear test track.
A surprise awaits viewers in the form of a brand new Reasonably Priced Car in which various celebrity guests will perform their fast laps under the expert supervision and tutelage of the world’s foremost racing driver, The Stig.
The 20th season of Top Gear will be on air Wednesday, 10 July at 7pm WAT on BBC Entertainment, channel 120 on DStv.
