Between Eshun, Vicky and Switch, who deserves to win Glo XFactor’s N24m & a Sony Music contract?

With the quality of the three finalists battling for the ultimate prize in the Glo-sponsored X Factor singing reality TV show, the audience had anticipated mind-blowing performances at the final performance show.

The host, Toolz, asked Reggie, “Did you ever think this night would come, and what do you expect?” Reggie replied, “Yes I knew this night would come. I’m expecting fireworks tonight!”

And fireworks it turned out to be! Eshun, Vicky and DJ Switch were to sing two songs each; the first of which was the song the Judges considered the act’s best performance on the show thus far.

Eshun

Eshun came onstage first, dazzling like a million stars as she approached the song with quiet confidence. She sang “Over the rainbow”so superbly that the message of the song descended on the audience like cool mist after an early morning rain.

DJ Switch practically jumped on stage next, accompanied by two energetic dancers. “Get up,” she sang, and the audience took her advice as many were on their feet, cheering and dancing. It was a jaw-dropping moment when she flipped backwards into the hands of her dancers, and continued rapping upside down. Even MI couldn’t contain his excitement as he stood up and moved restlessly about on the judges’ podium. “Absolute pandemonium,” Toolz confessed. “You never cease to amaze us.”

Next was Vicky who sang “You raise me up.”  She vocalized soulfully even as members of the audience waved their hands along with her. So moving was her performance that one or two members of the audience were seen wiping tears off their eyes.

It was then time for the contestants’ second performance, a song they thought best expressed their identities as artistes.

Eshun was the first to sing, and she carried the audience along with her performance. “I’m not leaving till you say you love me,” she sang, enhanced by a beautiful choreography that buttressed the message of the song. After her performance, Reggie said, “I’ll like to thank you. Many on Twitter accused me of being too hard on you. Because you’re from my country, people expect some form of partiality, but I’m not going to do that. Your performance is the best I’ve seen from you, and I think you’re worthy of the crown.”

MI agreed with him, “I have to admit that was your best performance. You are amazing. I like what you did with your dancer who was behind you, carrying you up intermittently, yet you didn’t lose focus on the music.” Onyeka said with love in her eyes, “This girl is beautiful, talented, audacious…everything put together. Sweetheart of a baby, you have made it!”

DJ Switch came back on stage, hands bound in chains and dragged by a male dancer as she sang 2face Idibia’s “Free.” As part of her stunt, she was kicked off the stage by her dancer at a stage in her performance, but she was caught by some other dancers who quickly rushed forward to carry her. She later came back and managed to boot off her attacker from the stage.

“She took my breath away,” a fan said. “The drama that she put in the song really conveyed her message home to me,” she concluded.

Onyeka said, “The remaining three are unique; there is room for all of you in this industry. I don’t know who is going to win, but that person will take this continent by storm”

Speaking in the same vein, Reggie said, “I thought I’ve seen it all, but I saw something new today. I’m always excited waiting for your performance. You rapped upside down; I mean who does that?” he finished off incredulously.

“You were kicked off the stage, believing that those guys would catch you. That was risky and it tells me you’re ready to put anything on the line, even your life, for your performance to go well and to blow the minds of the audience. If there’s any justice in the world, DJ Switch should win this competition,” MI declared.

Vicky took to the stage next, singing Omawumi’s “If you ask me.” She showed the versatility of her vocals. After her performance, MI said, “I loved it. You had fun on stage. At the beginning of the show, I didn’t see as much freedom as you’re showing now. You’re an absolute superstar; congratulations!” Reggie also said, “At this point, the competition has gotten tougher. I enjoyed the performance…you know what, may the best person win!” On her part, Onyeka said, “What we see in Vicky is that whimsical playfulness. You did us very proud and I’m sure Omawumi will be proud of you.”

It is now in the hands of the audience to decide who is Africa’s first X Factor winner. The voting lines open at 8.00 p.m. on Saturday and close at 8 pm on Monday.
