NBC to close illegal broadcast stations in Nigeria

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) will soon shut down over 49 television and Radio stations in Nigeria that are still operating with expired licenses and owing statutory fees and levies.

According to NBC, the stations have been given several warnings and the grace periods given to them have all expired. NBC published names of government- and privately-owned broadcast stations still in default as of December 23.

Government-owned stations that will be closed include Kano Broadcasting Services, Plateau State Broadcasting Services, and Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State, while privately-owned stations to be shut down include Daar Communications Plc, Samina Broadcasting Company Limited (Kiss FM Abuja), Network News 24 Limited and Proudly Africa Media Limited.
