House of Cards on DStv Catch Up: What to expect

Before you dive into the exciting first season, we’ve decided to give you a quick outline on what the series is about and who you can expect to see in it. 

What’s happening?
Basically, what you need to know about HoC is that there is a lot of drama. The best way to view a series like this is in one sitting, so grab the snacks! HoC sees a congressman betrayed by the White House and he isn’t pleased. When he isn’t nominated for Secretary of State, Frank takes things quite personally and decides to take revenge by taking down everyone from the inside.  

Who is involved?
The vengeful congressman Francis “Frank” Underwood is played by Kevin Spacey. His wife, Claire, is portrayed by Robin Wright. Even though Claire and Frank’s marriage is anything but perfect, Claire is still willing to help her husband.

The President of the United States, Garrett Walker, is played by Michel Gill. The president sees Frank as a confidant, not knowing that he is the very person behind the faltering of his administration. Walker’s wife and The First Lady, Patricia (played by Joanna Going), is friends with Frank’s wife and deals with a lot of stress brought on by her marriage. 

Kate Mara plays Zoe Barnes, a young, hungry journalist. Zoe works for The Washington Herald and finds herself part of Frank’s plans. Before she knows it, she’s involved with more than just Frank’s work. Through blackmail, Frank also is able to gain the loyalty of a Pennsylvania congressman, Petter Russo (portrayed by Corey Stoll). 

What to expect?
Expect betrayal, deceit and lies from House of Cards. Frank will stop at nothing to get his revenge – sometimes we wonder if he could give Emily Thorne a run for her money. The show moves quickly so we suggest enjoying it in one sitting and with all the episodes available onCatch Up, you can always re-watch anything you may have missed.
