Microsoft Devices Group announced that the Nokia X2, the newest addition to the Nokia X family of affordable smartphones, is now available for purchase in Nigeria. The Nokia X2 delivers upgraded specifications, more popular Microsoft services and a smoother, easier user experience at an affordable price.

“The Nokia X2 is designed to help the next billion people connect to the mobile Internet and cloud services, affordably,” said Head of Marketing, Nokia West and Central Africa, Deborah Shepard. “Following on the fantastic reception to the Nokia X family in Nigeria, we’re pleased to offer the next, evolutionary step in the line-up with the stunningly designed and affordable Nokia X2.”

The Nokia X2 boasts enhanced features, including a larger 4.3” ClearBlack display, a 5MP rear-facing, autofocus camera with flash, as well as a front-facing VGA camera which allows users take pictures even when the phone screen is locked. The smartphone also benefits from a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 200 processor featuring a dual core 1.2Ghz CPU and 1GB of RAM, to make switching between favourite apps even more fluid.

Out of the box, people can enjoy Microsoft services like Outlook.com, Skype and up to 15GB of free OneDrive cloud storage, while new apps like OneNote and Yammer are now available to download for free from the Nokia Store.

With Opera for Android as the device’s default browser, Nokia X2 users will save data while surfing on their mobile phones thanks to the Opera Turbo compression service embedded in the Opera browser. “We have a long history with Nokia (Now Microsoft) in Africa and we’re very pleased to continue this with the new Nokia X2 device. We believe that access to online information and services should be a fast, user-friendly and affordable experience and we’re sure that Nigerians will find this with Opera for Android on the Nokia X2,” said Richard Monday, Director for Opera sub-Saharan Africa.

The Nokia X2’s seamless monobody and exchangeable back covers with the ‘inner glow’ design beautifully complement major enhancements to the user interface. These include a new ‘home’ button and a choice of screens to make navigation a breeze.

Adding to the fantastic features available on the device is the colourful, tile-based ‘home’ screen with resizable, live tiles, a unique Fastlane feature for accessing most recent apps and future appointments, a new Lumia-inspired apps list, from which people can pin items to the home screen, visual multitasking screen is accessed by long-pressing the ‘back’ button and a pull-down notification centre that shows connectivity, app and system alerts.

The Nokia X2 is available in all mobile retail outlets across the country in glossy green, glossy orange and black colours.
