The Best Supporting Actress category this year is totally a Nigerian affair. Two of the actresses, Ada Ameh and Mercy Johnson featured in the wildly popular cinema blockbuster30 Days in Atlanta. They are joined by the Tinsel trio of Iretiola Doyle, Linda Ejiofor andTunde Aladese.

Last year, Bikiya Graham-Douglas walked away with the award for her performance in Flower Girl, this year who will it be? Your votes will decide.

Ada Ameh in 30 Days in Atlanta plays the character of a village woman. That woman who has heard stories about life abroad and has all the wisdom in the world to dole out for anyone who cares to listen. Her enunciation, genuflections and in-your-face personality draw you into her world where you have no choice but to listen. Comedy comes naturally to her and she carries her role with effortless charm.

Linda Ejiofor plays Ejura in The Meeting; a typical girl next door who is eager to help her new-found older friend during his time in Abuja. Currently observing the mandatory National Youth Service in the Federal Capital Territory, she goes through her fair share of relationship drama before finding love through an unlikely friendship. Her screen-friendly presence, diction and fun personality capture viewers’ hearts.

Mercy Johnson is no stranger to the AMVCA; she won the Best Actress Award for her comedic performance in Dumebi The Dirty Girl in 2013. This year she plays the love interest ofRamsey Nouah in 30 Days in Atlanta. Sporting an erratic American accent, she is dramatic and comedic at the same time. An experienced actress, Johnson delivers and adds to the star wattage of the movie.

Iretiola Doyle plays the role of Illa in the TV series Gidi Up. A wealthy woman on a mission to get some fun, she becomes a Good Samaritan to Obi by paying his hospital bills. In return for saving his life, he becomes her toy boy. Doyle plays the cougar role with style, class and charm. She not only looks the part but embodies it, paying attention to the fine details.

Tunde Aladese is best known for her work behind the scenes as a writer on Tinsel. WithConfusion Na Wa, she steps in front of the camera as Isabella, a wayward wife looking for fun and adventure. She gets her hands burnt when she gets pregnant from her lover and tries unsuccessfully to convince her husband that he is responsible. Aladese’s debut is strong, confident and thought-provoking.
