Lumia 830 Unboxing and First Impressions – Microsoft’s Affordable Flagship Smartphone
Like they always say “Better late then never”. On Wednesday 18 March, I took delivery from Microsoft Nigeria the Lumia 830 spanking new mid-range flagship smartphone running Windows Phone 8.1. The super-slim and light smartphone takes its look and feel from the more expensive Lumia 930.
Check out my Lumia 830 unboxing and impressions to find out more.
The box of the Lumia 830 is the same white box with slide-out inner lining with seen with previous models. However, the image is cleaner and neater on the front, being simply the back of the phone and not the front with Start screen.
In the box there is everything you need to get started, with a 3-pin plug and separate microUSB cable along with getting started manual, head plug and the device itself.
The Lumia 830 has a great look and is the most affordable flagship yet (before the Lumia 640 XL launches in April), offering a look and style akin to the Lumia 930 but with a slimmer profile. Made from a metal body with polycarbonate backing, the Lumia 830 is just 8.5mm thin and Mine comes in Bright Orange.
Contents pretty standard. Only difference for a flagship Lumia being the removable battery.
Battery, Nano SIM, MicroSD accessible from the back. No special tools needed.
BV-L4A 2200mAh battery.
Thin cover with NFC connection.
The 5-inch IPS-LCD display uses Curved Gorilla 3.0 glass and has a resolution of 1280×720 pixels.
Screen is very nice. Rich, punchy colours. I wish I had the 930 with me to compare. The screen’s automatic default is quite bright .
Nothing at the bottom, other than the visible latch for the battery cover.
Right side has the usual Lumia buttons – camera, lock, volume.
Top has the 3.5mm jack and MicroUSB slot.
Back has a high-end Lumia PureView camera. It’s a 10-Megapixel PureView sensor with ZEISS optics and the thinnest and lightest Optical Image Stabilisation system yet.
Always on Glance with more details.
Lumia Denim on board.
The bump is well hidden. There’s an extra protective lip that adds height to this bump although the camera bit is recessed.
Bump is hardly noticeable from the side.
Impressions:
– Very light. Nice cool touch with the metal sides.
– Bright and cool orange colour.
– It is super comfortable to use with one hand. Swyping with wordflow is just the right proportion.
– Powered by the 1.2GHz Snapdragon quad-core processor and backed with 1GB of RAM, the Lumia 830 is quick
– Everything seems very snappy so far.
– Rich recording is present and sounds lovely.
– Rich capture stuff is there as it has the updated Lumia camera.
– Touch slimmer without the cover.
The Lumia 830 is on sale Nigeria right now. With a price starting at just 67,000 Naira. This is surely a great all-round smartphone.
I love the feel of the Lumia 830 in my hand, as it’s slim design is lightweight but it feels every bit the premium quality smartphone you’d associate with Lumia devices.
Tempted by the Lumia 830?
