Facebook Launches ‘Riff,’ a Collaborative Video App

Riff

It may have been April Fools day, but that’s not stopping Facebook from an unveiling actual, real product.

The company today launched a collaborative video app called Riff.

It’s a pretty simple app. You create a video and set some tags for it, and then your friends can see the video and add their own clips to it. This then has a bit of a snowball effect to it; once a friend adds a clip, it’ll be shown to his or her friends, and they can add clips to the Riff as well.

A short video can therefore become a long collaborative project.  To keep things somewhat tame, videos have a max runtime of 20 seconds, and you can fast forward through content if the video threads become terribly lengthy.

Facebook says you can share these Riffs on either Facebook or the Web, and you can watch a sample the company has provided here.

Riff is available for both Android and iOS now.
