5 favourite new Windows Phone apps of the week

windows phone apps

Every week we scour the Windows Phone Store to find the hottest new apps and games, and each week we’re amazed by our discoveries.

Things just keep getting better and better, with tons of impressive new apps for us to choose from and more being published every day. It might make our task of choosing the best and brightest a bit more difficult, but when it comes to apps, the more the merrier. So what did we find for you this week? Read on to find out.

Tripwolf

What is it: a travel guide app

Why we love it: Gone are the days of lugging around bulky maps and travel guide books. These days, you can get all you need to have a smooth travel experience right on your Lumia. Tripwolf is an app that does just that, giving you access to a trip planner and guides for over 150 locations. The universal app is free, but you will need to purchase guides. The best part? It works 100% offline, so you won’t come home to a phone bill filled with excessive roaming charges.

Ducktales: Remastered

What is it: a classic Disney game

Why we love it: Who doesn’t love a trip down memory lane? Ducktales is one of the most loved 8-bit platformers from the 90s, and now it’s better than ever and available right on your Lumia. The remastered version, in which you set off on a journey as Scrooge to find the 5 Legendary Treasures, includes better graphics, an expanded storyline, and new difficulty modes that will make both new and seasoned gamers happy. The universal app costs $9.99, but we think that’s a fair price for such a huge dose of nostalgia.

What is it: a free file manager app

Why we love it: This nicely-designed and impressively fast file manager is a great choice if you’re looking for something to keep your files in check. You manage local, memory card, and OneDrive files, with plenty of features, to ensure that you have the control that you want. Check out the app listing for a full feature list, but a few of our favorites are the option to pin files and folders to your start screen, passcode locks, color and theme customization, and offline access to all your OneDrive files.

Who it’s perfect for: busy people that like to stay organized

What is it: a sports app

Why we love it: The app for the USA’s biggest sports network just received a big rewrite, introducing a smooth new look and a few nifty features that sports fans will appreciate. The free app now offers more personalization to get you the scores and news that you care most about from the MLB, NFL, NBA, MLS, and college sports, a shiny new ESPN Now section for real-time news and commentary, and an On-Air section for live access to ESPN networks.

Why we love it: Another note is an easy-to-use note-taking app that allows you to capture and organize your notes and ideas. Created by the developer of speech-to-text app Voicy, another note lets you dictate your notes in over 35 languages, so you can get those thoughts down without needing to type anything.
