CANAL+ AND KWESÉ SEAL THE DEAL FOR THE ACQUISITION OF NBA RIGHTS
The French premium cable television channel, Canal+, has sealed the deal with Econet’s Kwesé for the acquisition of the NBA rights. Subscribers from the Francophone Africa, Madagascar and Mauritius, will be having access to the next three seasons on channel Canal+ Sport 3. The channel will be available in Africa and Madagascar on the Canal+ bouquets and on the EVASION+ bouquet in Mauritius.
The coverage will be complemented with a weekly magazine programme called ‘Canal NBA’. According to this pact, the broadcaster has obtained the unique rights to the ‘NBA TV’ channel, as well. It is broadcasted in English and is now accessible as part of selected Canal Plus packages. The channel’s offer is all about programs in basketball which include NBA meetings, daily information on basketball and the lives of NBA teams, reports on players and talk shows.
Joseph Hundah, President and CEO of the group in Econet Media, said: “We are pleased to offer basketball fans the best of our content. We were able to achieve this through our multi-channel distribution approach to our TV and digital platforms Kwesé and through agreements like this one signed with CANAL + Group. This allows the greatest number to enjoy the NBA thanks to the presence of CANAL + in French-speaking African countries”.
On the other hand, Pierre Chaudesaygues, Director of Channels Sports CANAL + Overseas, commented: “The NBA is in the DNA of CANAL +! We are very pleased to offer the best basketball to our subscribers through this great partnership with Kwese and Econet”.
