AUDIO ALBUM: Da L.E.S – Diamond In Africa

Every once in a while we find an artiste that is so bold and confident enough to drop a surprise album without so much prior promotion or publicity. South African renowned OG in the hip-hop scene, Da L.E.S just pulled that stunt as he drops his fourth studio album titled “Diamond In Africa”, just because he can.

He is taking Minnie Dlamini’s title on this one, the self-acclaimed “North God” mentioned the release of the album a couple of months ago while making some TV and radio rounds but no one expected the release so soon as he desired that his fans wait for the unexpected release.

If Twitter is anything to go by, then it is safe to say the fans are really loving this new body of work as Da L.E.S has been overwhelmed with tons of commendation from his industry colleagues. Music producer, Gemini Major who also appears on the album alongside  L-Tido took to Twitter to congratulate their friend and requested that true fans of hip-hop show support buy getting their copy.

“Diamond In Africa” is a follow up on his November 2015 “North God” release which took the industry by storm, just like you would expect this body of work is pure hip-hop as is, Da L.E.S gives it 100% as he acknowledges that his fans deserves nothing but the best.

Da L.E.S referred to himself as the Diamond in Africa, hence the album’s title. He said to DJ Fresh on Friday while making radio station rounds on 5fm morning show, Fresh At Five, unfolding the album’s sound as more refined and mature.

“I feel like I’ve evolved; trying new frequencies within the music, trying new ways within my sound, I just felt like I’m THE diamond in Africa and I made the one song ‘Diamond in Africa’ and from that song I just felt like I was going to name the album ‘Diamond in Africa,”

The North God qualified his work principle and quality production, he has been able to put out an album each year in the recent three years while still taking his responsibilities as a father to his little daughter who just turned three years old.

“I have had to reassess my work rate. Before I had my daughter, I was more of a day-by-day, nonchalant kind of a guy. Now it’s 10 years in the game next year for me, I’m just reevaluating my brand and looking at so many other great music business opportunities to create and just better myself.”

“Diamond In Africa” is a 10-track album and can be purchased on iTunes. Da L.E.S enlists the likes of Family Tree Records’ Nadia Nakai and Gemini Major as well as his regular collaborator and best friend forever, AKA on the album.

The lead single on the album is ‘Up To Something’ which released months back.
