Box TV launch new music channel in Africa

New channel launch signals a step up in global expansion for UK music TV channel portfolio. Box TV today announces that “Box”, is launching in Africa. Following the successful overseas launch of its UK channels Kiss, Magic, Smash hits and Kerrang!, the addition of Box to its international distribution roster signals a confident step forward for Box TV the biggest music television player in the UK, the world’s second largest music market.

Scott Monks, Box TV’s Director of International said: “Box TV has already secured carriage on a number of television platforms in Africa including toptv, South Africa’s second largest Satellite platform and Zuku, Kenya’s fastest growing pay TV platform. The launch of Box within this market is a testament to the success of the existing channels and is a response to platform and viewer demand. Audiences told us they loved our music channels and asked us to add a complimentary channel with all the quality and artist access of our other channels but with the addition of some local music with a hip hop and RnB slant.”

“For international labels, this is a great opportunity to showcase their artists, to get their content placed on popular and high quality TV channels as well as gaining exposure to key UK music figures,” Monks continues.

Box TV is keen to ensure that Box represents the vast music choice in the African market as well as reflect the viewer’s preferences in the look and feel.

Monks said: “Our launch idents feature Ice Prince, Nigeria’s hottest hip hop artist and the first track to play will be D’Banj, an artist credited with helping to bring Afro-beats to the global stage. We are committed to bringing the best local and international music to African TV through the Box channel and we will include music from across South Africa and Sub Saharan Africa.”

Box TV channel targets twenty-something music fans who want to know what the best new music is in the mainstream market. It will showcase A-list international RnB and Hip Hop music as well as the very best African music including Kwaito and Nigerian Hip Hop.
