PICTURES FROM THE PORT HARCOURT AUDITIONS OF NIGERIAN IDOL

Port Harcourt is always on point. The audition witnessed a great turnout of contestants and did they come with their swag? Asides showcasing their singing prowess, the auditions could pass for a fashion event. The contestants came in various outstanding dress designs and colour blocking was the order of the day. As one of the contestants put it; ‘this could well be termed a rainbow show’.

There was great entertainment in the audition hall as K Switch thrilled the people with his popular song ‘Sisi Caro’, Chuddy K did ‘Gaga while Waconzy gave God the glory with ‘I celebrate’.

There was also a mock Idol competition. Volunteers were requested to come out and perform the theme song by the lead sponsor Etisalat. Five people came out in all and it was such a hilarious contest. Hearing them sing made one wonder if they actually meant business by coming out to be auditioned in the first place. They wrote the lyrics of the song and mostly read it as a hymn despite the fact that the song was played repeatedly in the hall. Eventually, a winner emerged through a democratic process. The people were asked to chorus a ‘Yes’ to show approval for the contestant they think performed the song best.

The winner walked away with a ‘Beat by Dre’ HD headset. If he doesn’t go far in the competition, at least he will listen to good music by others with the headset.
