Gulder Ultimate Search Season 9: Episode 9 (10 Contenders Survive First Gatekeeper)

The 10 remaining contenders have been passed through the gate by the first of the three Gulder Ultimate Search 9 Gatekeepers – Christopher Okagbue. Even though Nuhu Zigwayi and Uzor Osimpka emerged last in the ‘Ladder of Pain’ task, they escaped eviction because it was not a Gatekeeper’s test.

The challenge which was team-based, involved contenders having both feet and hands on the braces of ladders which were slanted across a pond. To make it more gruelling, the contenders were required to grip a higher brace on the ladder with their hands at intervals; while their feet remained on the last brace of the ladder. The second members of each team were to serve as muses by whispering words of encouragement in their team mates’ ear, but were not allowed to touch them.

It was the first time contenders were subjected to a task after midnight in the 9 year history of Gulder Ultimate Search. Their over 2 hour ‘ordeal’ lasted till 2:30 am.

Udodi Onyinye and Paschal Eronmose won the challenge. For their feat, they won for themselves a piece of calabash. Speaking on the importance of the calabash, Christopher Okagbue said: “You are not only required to conceal this piece of calabash from everyone else, you are to guard it with your very lives. It will help you in your search for the Gatekeeper’s Fortune.”

The first Gatekeeper also had some words for the remaining contestants. Christopher Okagbue said: “You have all come this far for a reason, and you have proven yourselves worthy to continue in this quest in Gulder Ultimate Search – The Gatekeeper’s Fortune. You’ve lost some of your comrades, but you still stand strong, so congratulations. I’ll usher you through the gates and onto the next level, where you’ll face challenges tougher than the ones you’ve faced already. You think you’ve had it tough? Wait till you see what’s coming. Once you go through these gates, there is no turning back. The old you ceases to exist right now, and the new you forges ahead from this point onwards.”

They were let through the Gate by 3:00 am.
