Gulder Ultimate Search Season 9: Episode 13 (Priscillia Ezeh Becomes An Outcast; Burdened With Stump Of Shame)

The 13th episode of “The Gatekeeper’s Fortune” marked another introduction in the Gulder Ultimate Search series – the Stump of Shame, which is a burden to be borne by the loser of the day’s task. It is a heavy stump, with a rope tied around it. Chidi Mokeme, the Anchor man, announced that the stump, which would be tied around the loser’s right ankle, would be dragged everywhere the carrier goes, until the next task. In addition the carrier cannot have any form of interaction with fellow contenders; neither can the individual sleep under the contenders’ shelter. The person attains outcast status until the next challenge. Not a penalty any contender would look forward to.

The Stump of Shame was however borne by Priscillia Ezeh who emerged the loser in the Memory Recall game. For the challenge, the contenders had to memorise the 46 words written on a scroll pinned to a tree. They then had to cross a stream, picking puzzles from five baskets, one at a time, to their work stations. The contenders had to replicate the 46 words in the order they were written on the scroll. Patience Bornford won the task and became the Head Warrior. Onyinye Udodi emerged second despite having a 10 second delay as a punishment for her woeful performance in the previous day’s task. Udah James finished next, followed by Paschal Eronmose, Uzor Osimpka and Ifet Iniobong.  Perhaps mindful of the fate that awaited her, Priscillia Ezeh burst into tears and appeared helpless when Nuhu Zigwayi finished; making her the loser and the Stump bearer.

Later that night, Chidi Mokeme paid a surprise visit to the camp to reiterate the need to build an elevated platform to serve as their bed; as against sleeping with their mats on the bare floor. As the females saw to the preparation of their dinner, the males went into the jungle, machetes in hand, to source for bamboos to construct their beds.
