joyful_noise

Joyful Noise follows a no-nonsense mother raising two teens alone, who has to take responsibility of a church choir after the director passes away. She follows the traditional Gospel style but the widow of the late church director (and the main benefactor to the church) disagrees and feels the role should have been given to her. How will the issues be resolved?

The movie is entertaining and emotional, with a lot of music and a string of great talent forming the main cast. We take a look at who stars in the movie and see what musical ventures they have been involved in.

The country star

Country singer turned actress, Dolly Parton had taken a break from the silver screen untilJoyful Noise came along. Parton delivers her role as G G Sparrow on a silver platter.

No denying it, Parton has a distinct voice and old and news fans will enjoy her belting out song after song in the movie.

The hip hop star

From her hip hop days to her performances in Chicago and Hairspray, Queen Latifah has had music in her blood for a long time. She puts on a stellar performance as Vi Rose Hill.

Latifah’s great musical talent, strong portrayal of character and comedic spirit really shine. Oh, and let’s not forget the Latifah-Parton food fight scene – Joyful Noise gets five stars from us just for this.

Watch Queen Latifah as she embarks on a new phase of her career with The Queen Latifah Show, starting Monday 21 October at 6:30pm on M-Net Series Showcase.

The rising star

Keke Palmer
has come a long way from her days in starring on True Jackson VP. She is currently promoting her self-titled mix tape, Keke Palmer. She also voices the character of Layla on Winx Club (on every week day at 7:40am on Nickelodeon).

Palmer plays the role of Olivia Hill (Vi Rose Hill’s daughter). This movie shows Palmer’s growth as an actress and her great vocal talent.  Palmer is still young but is making a name for herself and is soon on the road to become a musical legend in her own right.
