VIDEO: Nigerian Idol Season 4 – Episode 3 (Calabar Auditions)
Just when we thought prospective contestants in ‘The People’s Paradise’ city, Calabar, were going to raise the bar, they failed to do so as only two contestants were lucky enough to walk away with a golden ticket. Little wonder why Calabar hopefuls didn’t deliver. However, some hopefuls gave rib cracking performances which we’ll never forget in a hurry. We won’t forget Cindy Aniezi who opened the auditions with a song she composed for our official sponsor Etisalat. If you missed that moment, don’t fret; you can always check the ‘FUNNIES’ section on our website to get a dose of the rib cracking moment. There were more hopefuls just like Cindy, whose performances gave the judges the ‘what were you thinking’ look, which made them not only laugh out loud, but also made them cringe.
It was not all laughs and horrible singing throughout. Prospective contestants like Rita Obua, who auditioned for the first time ever, showed the judges that there was still hope in finding the voice of tomorrow in Calabar. She got two yeses after her rap performance and from then on, hope was revived in the Calabar auditions. Remember Paul Enuoma from the Benin Auditions? He showed up again in Calabar and this time, he took the judges’ correction and stepped up his game. Belema from Benin auditions as well, came to Calabar to try change the judges’ minds about the last decision she was given. Guess what? She succeeded. How can we forget to mention Mr. Percy Lawrence? At 58 years of age, he was the oldest hopeful to audition. Although his singing was not what the judges’ set out to look for, his aim of getting the exposure just by auditioning was achieved. We mentioned earlier that Calabar produced only two prospective contestants who walked away with the golden ticket that send them straight to Dream Studio. Dawn Ugoeke and BeeBee Bassey were the hopefuls whose performances, singing ability and boldness earned them the most desired ticket in the auditions stage.
So, Benin, Port Harcourt and Calabar have shown us what they’ve got. Will the winner of this season of Nigerian Idol emerge from any of these cities? Time will tell. In the meantime, we’ll bring you the highs, the lows, the laughs, the shouts, the tears and all from the auditions held in Makurdi. Don’t miss it!
