Nigerian Communications Commission-NCC

The Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) recorded 63,474,364 internet users in February, as against 64,079,270 users in January, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said on Monday.

According to the Internet Subscriber Data released by the NCC, the users that browsed the Internet through the GSM networks reduced by 604,906 within the period.

The data showed that Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) Nigeria, occupying the first position on its table, had 32,809,357 users in February, as against 33,327,955 users in January, thus losing 518,598 users.

Also, Globacom, occupying the second position, recorded 14,908,109 users that browsed the World Wide Web (WWW) through its network in January, while it recorded 15,109,791 users in February and lost 201,682 users.

Airtel Nigeria was placed third with 9,647, 217 users in February, as against 11,065,534 users in January, losing 1, 418,317 subscribers.

Etisalat, which was placed on the fourth position, offered internet services to 6,109,681 users in February, as against 6,364,573 users in January, losing 254,892 users.

It would be recalled that many subscribers had moved from GSM networks to Internet Service Providers (ISPs), regarded as the latest revolution in the telecommunications industry.

The movement would help subscribers to receive better data services, since the business of the ISPs was on data management.
